I dont like Wright's defense it would never work without those oversided gloves.
    Pretty good point Mckay.

Winky was dropped like a million times against Vasquez. although that was semi early during his career.

I think Floyd's defence is better overall and is more suited for countering and more versitle, but Winky's is a little bit more reliable and less likely to get caught by a clean shot, although those blocked shots can add up.
Also Winky's defence is much better against jabs, almost none can land against him, and if theres one punch that Mayweather gets caught with, its the jab.

I love seeing the jab stats at the end of a Wright fight:

        Wright: 124 of 387
        Opponent: 2 of 322

        Pretty funny.

The first fight I noticed that Winky started this bulletproof defense was against Robert Frazier, because he didn't do it against Vargas or McKart, he fought like a slick fighter would. He probably tried to fight slick against Vazquez, and that's why he got knocked down 5 times.

Very good post by the way. That last paragraphy pretty much sums up the pros and cons of each. Well done!

That would be a ****** way to go about fighting Floyd. Fighting him at distance using the jab. Especially at these higher weights you got bully him around, get him in corners, on the ropes, pound on him and outwork him. Hatton has the footword to get in position to do this and the workrate which is why it's good matchup.

Floyd is to fast, moving all the time, cunning, to quick of hands to fight at range for basically anybody.

2 of those were slips IMO.......and he still outclassed vazquez....... but that was before he started using the shell...

Unless your jab is so good that you can dictate, control the fight with it, keep floyd where you want him. I dont know who's jab is that good for a realistic opponent.

When Wright fought Vaquez he was not the same type of fighter he is today.

He was a hands down slickster. He slipped punches with head movement, and got out of the way with his feet.

Winky Wright is alot more than Hands up. He blocks he parries he rolls he slips. His defense is not reliant on the size of his gloves. He has been forced to use "small" gloves on many occasions.

                The result? Flawless defense.

Floyd has the better defense. Winky has good shell defense BUT! It hard to throw power punches in that stance and that defense only works on small opponents! Look what Taylor and B-Hop did to Winky.
