I think we're overrating Paulie due to the fact that he was courageous against Cotto. He beat N'dou and now he's the ****? N'dou is 36 with 9 losses on his record. Fights with a lot of energy but lacks basic skills. He can't even cut the ring off, what a perfect match-up for Malignaggi. There was a thread here about Hatton being the most overrated fighter over the past 25 years. How about the most overrated fighter in the past 2 years? The honour should definately go to Malignaggi.
what can a guy like Malignaggi do?

I wouldn't call Malignaggi the most down to earth guy out there. I think he has some arrogance to him. I'm not saying it's over the top obnoxious like a Floyd Mayweather or RJJ, but he's kinda ****y. Truthfully, I like Malignaggi. He's quick and I think he's learned to pick his shots carefully after the Cotto fight (which by the way I do agree he showed a lot of heart in). I'd like to see him have the chance to back himself up against the fighters he's called out. He deserves it.Paulie's fighting Herman Ngoudjo later this year, possibly on Showtime's final card of the year. That's as good a fight as any for Malignaggi to prove that he has something to offer to the rest of the division.
He was valiant in defeat against Cotto, but has yet to nail that win where he leaves people saying "I can't wait to see him again." Right now, he's getting by on his personality (and in my own biased opinion, you can't ask for a more down-to-earth fighter - or person); he just needs to start delivering in the ring.
The N'Dou fight wasn't a bad starting point, in terms of credibility, but the fight wasn't exactly a Fight of the Year contender. Ngoudjo is hardly involved in stinkers, so this will be a good litmus test for Paulie, in terms of in-the-ring marketability and demand.Comment

Yeah after Cotto broke the orbital bone in Malignaggi's face he's been much more humble.
who else has he called out? cuz for the record all I know is Chavez Jr, Hatton and didn't he want a rematch at 147 vs Cotto? or I coulda sworn I heard him say that.
but yeah he may have a watered down, slightly devalued title, but after his mandatory coming up in December, I would expect Paulie to get a bigger fight at 140 or even 147.Comment

I think Paulie is an exciting fighter... not only did he beat N'Dou, he did not lose a round... shut him out... Now most fights that are that one sided are unwatchable... I really enjoyed that fight...
Also, I think he can handle the guys he calls out, he has called out Hatton, I think that is a SuperFight at 140 especially if "the Magic Man" can fight a Harris or a Rees before, after his Dec. 1 against his mandatory... Especially after Ricky takes his beating against PBF, Hatton will want a fight at 140...
That would make it a unification fight thus "SUPER!"Comment

Malignaggi could hang with most of the second tier fighters, but once you hit elite status he simply doesn't have enough pop to make his opponents honest. Someone like Hatton would take a few just to pin him against the ropes then wale away. I can't see Malignaggi being any sort of legend.Comment

Malignaggi will fare well against the B and C fighter of the sport, but not defeat any real elite fighters.Comment

When it comes to that, you just have to keep fighting and winning. You will get the recognition you deserve eventually, some of the new champions are much to impatient without making names for themselves, that's what they have to do first.Comment

What can malignaggi do?I feel for this guy. He has been consistantly calling out some of the best fighters in the sport...and when he finaly gets his chance he proves he can deffanatly hang with world class opponants and do well. But almost remenisant of winky wright no one will fight him because he can hang with the best. Because he didnt realy beat cotto no one is like obligated to fight him but its obvious he deserves the big fights. What can malignaggi do?
Do you guys think he will ever get his big fights?
Do you guys think im a complete ******?
I don't believe it would be in his best interest at the moment to move up in weight divisions. Right now he looks real good at 140 and for the time being he should remain there. I hate to say that (since there is so much competition at 147) but i think its in his best interest to stay at 140.
I think he should gun to be the overall champion of the division and to do that he's going to have to unify the titles AND beat ricky hatton. some of the titleholders are people i can see malignaggi beating; the hardest part would be beating ricky hatton. IF paulie can do this he wont need to move up in divisions due to the fact everyone will be after him since he'd be the top guy (just like how all the welterweights are gunning for mayweather because he's the champ of the division and #1 on the P4P list). paulie wont be on the p4p list but he will be the guy on the top of the hill in the 140 divison and everyone is going to want to try and take his place.
the 140 division (with the exception of hatton) is pretty drained for talent now...but note i said NOW...eventually (especially if he becomes the 140 champ) there will be guys moving up from 135 and guys moving down from 147 to attempt to beat him as well (just like hatton is going up to 147 to beat mayweather).
even though paulie got a start (22-1 in his mid/late 20's) he's going to have to be patient and not get ahead of himself by going up to 147. the reason i say this is because in the 140 divison he has the speed (in my opinion he and hatton are the two best, fastest/quickest guys in their division) to win. he has great boxing skills (which makes up somewhat for the lacking in his punching power). i mean lets be honest he only has 5KO wins...that doesnt strike me as a knockout puncher...
i like paulie alot (and no its not just because im italian) and i think if he can unify the titles and become the 140lb divison champ he will have accomplished a lot and then he can decide what he wants to do but for now he should build his resume with the titles and division champ.Comment

well as of now none. (no victories over elites at least) so he can't really call anyone out
but its give and take ... seriously what elite fighters did P-Will fight before getting that title shot vs Tony Margarito?
the best thing Paulie can do right now, is win. (obviously winning impressively would help as well)
outside of the belt holders and Hatton, there aren't any big fights for him at 140.
and his 5 KO's is no accident .. Paulie doesn't have much power, and that could make a huge difference cuz as slick a fighter as Paulie maybe he can't expect to hold off the bigger punchers at Welter if he can't keep them honest.Comment
