Kessler answers Calzaghe on "fire in belly" comment

“All the talking so far has been done by his promoter, Mogens Palle,” the Welsh Dragon told British media. “I want to look Kessler in the eye. I want to see if he has the fire in his belly.”

The confident Kessler laughed off Super Joe’s chirping.

“What’s on the menu for the press lunch?” Kessler said. “Is it chicken vindaloo or some Mexican meal with habanero peppers? It must be something really ****y if it causes fire in the belly. If Joe has fire in his belly, maybe Frank Warren should get him an appointment to see an internal medicine specialist. I bet it’s nothing that Maalox cannot cure.

“Seriously, I look forward to a great fight from Calzaghe and I know what my job is on the night. “I’ve just started training because the contracts just got signed so I’ve got some catching up to do,” Kessler said. “I will be ready when I step into the ring. I know the crowd will be proud and loud. Maybe I should wear some earphones to block them out.”

Palle disses Calzaghe

“I can’t speak English like Frank,” Palle said. “But his Danish is not so good, either. The truth of the matter is Warren thought I was just bluffing when I told him Kessler was willing to fight Joe in Joe’s own backyard. Frank kept going on and on about coming to Denmark although I knew that was his bluff.

“Neither Warren nor Calzaghe ever had any intention of coming to Kessler’s country to make this great fight a reality,” Palle said. “They call his fighter ‘Stay At Home Joe’ for a reason because he is a stay at home fighter. Just look at his record.”

Palle said his boxer never hesitated in accepting the venue once the financial terms were set.

“Mikkel said a ring is a ring is a ring no matter where you put it. He’s been licking his chops to get at Joe for a very long time and Frank kept dodging the situation until we came to terms for the venue he so desperately wanted. In fact, we agreed to fight anywhere in the UK but Frank and Joe wanted all the comforts of home so they landed it in Cardiff.”

Sure he’s far from neutral but Palle said the site will not determine the outcome.

“I believe Mikkel will win,” Palle. “He is younger, stronger and faster. Yes, Joe has a unique and busy style but all those slapping punches he throws will not deter Kessler. The stage is set for a brilliant fight and I love Kessler’s chances.”
