    Don't rewrite history on RJJ

    Wait.

Roy Jones established his greatness and then had a ****ty end-of-career string. If Roy had hung 'em up after Tarver 1, then nobody would have **** to say.

Beat legitimate HoFers: Hopkins and Toney
    Dominated everybody in his time.
Moved through several different weight classes.
Olympic Gold medal (yes, he deserved it)
Moved up from MW to beat a SOLID heavyweight titlist.
Moved back down from HW to beat the best LHW out there.
    Beat the great Vinny Pazienza

RJJ in his prime would have wiped his ass with Tarver and Johnson.

      Especially Johnson.

I think (and Roy himself said this too) that Tarver's southpaw counterpunching style would have always given Roy a run for his money. He didn't even really look good at all in the first fight against Tarver. If Tarver wouldn't have caught the Zab Judah bug for 7 of those rounds, he would have won the fight easily. The rounds Roy won were close, and Tarver wasn't doing a whole lot... the rounds Tarver won, he won huge.

Not the point. The point is who thought that Roy Jones Junior was the GOAT when he was knocking everyone out? Who thinks Roy Jones Junior is GOAT now? That's right.

I don't know how many people think his resume is the GOAT... his ability on the other hand is still nothing like anything ever seen for the weight divisions he fought in.

Mayweather reminds me of a new Roy Jones, except he is better schooled on the orthodox boxing skills of the sport.

But my point is that at the time the same sort of people were saying he is the greatest to ever lace em up as are saying the same thing about Mayweather now. All I'm saying is let's save the talk of GOAT until after he retires. For good.

The GOAT talk they are talking about is different from the GOAT talk you are talking about. I agree, that the GOAT resume should be saved for retired fighters. But what the **** is the difference whether a fighter is retired or not if you are talking about their ability, not their accomplishments.

Actually, I never considered RJJ as GOAT. I do consider him an ATG. Still.

And I'm not sure that I ever met someone who thought RJJ was GOAT.

                I understand your perspective.

                  Bull****.

Brits don't actively go out of their way to love a loser. Did the fans who spent all the money to go across the atlantic to see Lewis fight come back pissed off when he'd won but ecstatic after the mcall and rahmann fights. Crazy talk.

I can see were this perception has come from cos, we tend to stay loyal to our favourite fighters (eg Frank Bruno) even when they've been well beaten, rather than jump off the bandwagon and follow someone else.

You would never meet anyone who called RJJ the GOAT. They lived on the internet!
