Dan Rafael of ESPN.com said that VARGAS's elibility in the ballots depends A LOT on how he handles Mayorga

no...its kind of sad, but hes a fighter thats just on the threshhold, but never could make it. The only guys hes lost to are first ballot Hall of Famers, but the point is that he DIDNT beat them, even though he gave them very tough fights. I kind of feel sorry for him...

although wasnt he the youngest LMiddle Champion? maybe taht could count for something...either way, I dont think fighting a very blown up Mayorga far from the 154 limit is going to decide if hes a HOF fighter or not.

I blame the fans. Fernando has great talent like Zab. Unfortunately the childish urge to please fans has caused him to loose easy fights and also taken away his ability to learn the art.

It's funny that he is fighting Mayorga, because those 2 guys really are at the very brink. They beat every single fighter they faced, except for the elite ones. Any time they did beat a huge name, it was controversial (Mayorga beat Forrest [the second fight was controversial] and Vargas beat Wright)
