    well i think boxing would be one of the best martial arts i could learn as it is physically and mentally intense but im scared from ehat the media are saying about brain damage and stuff can anyone shed some light

    In-Fighters gotta deal with the brain damage. Maybe you should box on the outside and get inside ONLY when the fighter is hurt. I once told my doctor I wanted to be a boxer and he also talked about the brain damage. That stuff doesn't scare me at all. Just work on your defense and make sure your offense becomes your defense. I have this right hook I use.

    My Great Right Hook

    1. Throw a hard right hook (Body punch)
    2. Make sure your left hand is covering your face to the right
    3. Your left elbows and shoulder should be higher then your chin.

    You can perform this move with an Upper Cut.

    I also put my head down when I throw straights (B-Hop Style) But my trainer does not like this.

    I've been trying to improve this punch its worked really good in sparring

      that is why you gotta move faster hand have better defesne dont get into unnecceary wars in the ring as long as you control the pace of the fight and winning that is okay.

      there is another scary part is hand problems

          Don't worry too much my friend.

          Find a reputable gym locally and start slow with the basics. Trust what you are taught, get in shape and use their experience to guide you.

          Most sports have an element of risk but without risk life would be boring, you have more chance of being seriously hurt driving a car than in a boxing ring yet we all get into cars daily. Enjoy.

            yeh man if you think about it, any contact sport, you can get seriously injured..i think boxing is the best sport bcuz it can help you in life. basketball-teaches you to run.wrestling- you cant knock a person out wrestling when u have to defend ur self,footbal- teaches you to RUN AWAY from the bigger guys..boxing teaches you how to STAND UP to the big guys..join a gym, take it slow..by the sounds of it your probably gonna cover up once you get hit ( ive had the same problem) but im past that..it just made no sense to me why someone would just stand there n sure maybe ur not gettin hit but letin somebody wale on you when you arent doin ****..fight back! good luck with it

                you are what you train my man, im sure if you train hard in a good gym where you know they wont ever advice you to do something that will harm you, you will learn and work and that will give you confidence to know that as long as you know the basis of boxing, and polish them, you are safe....

                of course theres always risk, but as much risk as there is playing football..

                  you should try it and see if you feel comfortable or not. you shouldn´t worry about brain damage if you dont go pro. so just tray it out, i assure you you will love it =D
