    Question about the Titles

Just looking up some sites with current lists of champions, and need some help with something.

    In the SM division:

    WBA - Mikkel Kessler 38-0 (29 KOs) / Anthony Mundine 29-3 (22 KOs)

What exactly does that mean? I don't get it, obviously there can't be two champions on the one belt...right?

    And then Cruiserweight:

    WBA - Jean Marc Mormeck 33-3 (22 KOs) / Virgil Hill 50-6 (23 KOs) / Firat Arslan 27-3-1 (18 KOs)

Is this just a WBA thing? Thanks

Yes. The WBA has a super champion and a regular champion. It is very confusing because the regular champion is still recognized as a WBA champion for that weight class. That's all I know, there is more to explain, and I would actually like to find out about this, because I have wondered it about it too.

Hey thanks for the information man. Thats ridiculous really, makes a mockery of the whole thing. I wonder if there is a way they could get rid of all that...but they probabaly wouldn't want to, seen as its making them money.

Here's the strange thing, when Hopkins got every middleweight belt, he beat the regular WBA champion when he already had the super WBA belt, so does that mean a new regular champion is appointed? I certainly don't know, but I'd like to find out.

What it basically means is, bosers get titles they don't deserve, they cloud up the weight divisions with an aura of confusion as to who the true world champion is, and the sanctioning body gets to collect more sanctioning fees. Overall.. it means, boxing/boxers get screwed.

They usually cover it up by saying they want more active title fights, and can have unnification bouts, with THAT particular sanctioning body collecting on the fees, whoever wins.

Here's how the Hopkins situation went down:

William Joppy held the WBA championship (I guess it wasn't dual at the time, only when one boxer does something special do they move up to super champion status). He lost to Felix Trinidad in the first round of the King middleweight unification tournament. Trinidad then lost to Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins has the WBA belt, and they declare him super champion. Immediately after that, Joppy fought Howard Eastman for the vacant WBA regular championship belt. Two fights later Joppy loses to Hopkins, so Hopkins unified the WBA belts. What that got him? I don't know. If they gave his regular belt to someone else? I don't know that either.

Here's the Joppy page that kind of gives a good overview of what happens:

Yeah thats a great example of how it seems to work. It's prob two guys in an office just making this stuff up as they go along. Its a pity, it's bad enough having four champions, but then sub-champions? Getting out of control.

                  And here's the ****ing answer:

                  http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...5483&cat=boxer

They gave another regular championship out after Hopkins beat Joppy. Absurd and pathetic.
