Miguel “El Anestesista” Huerta (27-8, 17 KO’s) has moved past his questionable loss against Almazbek Raiymkulov (a.k.a) Kid Diamond in June. It was called one of the worst decisions ever made by Versus’ commentator Wally Matthews. “It’s in the past and I want to live in the present,” Huerta said. “People in the business recognized that it was an unfair decision and that’s all that matters to me.”
Huerta is ranked the #12 lightweight by the WBC and will be taking on Efren Hinojosa (29-3, 17 KO’s) in the main event being televised on the Versus network this Thursday. “I’ve seen Hinojosa. He’s a guy who brawls. His style is similar to mine,” said Huerta. “I think it’ll be a lot like my last fight against Kid Diamond.”
The fight against Diamond was a brutal back and forth affair that saw Huerta take Diamond’s hardest shots repeatedly. Huerta landed his own powerful combinations and even dropped the much ballyhooed prospect in the eleventh round. It looked like a clear cut victory for Huerta.
The judges had other ideas. The decision went to Diamond much to the dismay of the crowd. “I don’t want a rematch,” he’d say frustratingly after the fight. “I already beat him.”
