It is common knowledge that conditioning coach Australian Justin Fortune is out of Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym. Naturally Fortune is also out of Manny Pacquiao’s Training staff. A conditioning coach is the person who takes care of the boxers mind conditioning or in other words , he psyches up the boxers frame of mind. A boxer’s mind condition is very important in winning fights.
A casual conversation with Pacquiao’s Filipino trainer, Buboy Fernandez made it known that Fortune’s functions in the team was delegated to him with Roachs supervision. Since Fernandez is also loaded with tasks as Freddie’s assistant trainer,the team decided to hire the services of former two time world champion Dodie Boy Penalosa. Manny and Freddie thought it wise to hire the services of Penalosa so as to make everyone’s job lighter.
Dodie Boy is the elder brother of newly crowned WBO Bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa who won via a sensational 7th round knockout over then champion Mexican Johnny Gonzales. “I am happy the team decided to hire me to help out in Manny’s conditioning” Dodie boy blurted. I can help them because I have the necessary knowledge in training and conditioning, being a former world champion,he added.Furtheremore, Dodie is a close friend of Manny’s and this relationship would be of big help in psyching up Manny for the October 6 2007 fight.
Meanwhile ,Buboy was asked why he is so fat even as he keeps up with Pacquiao’s training. “You see I have a leg injury that I got from a motocross competition that I participated in. The injury per doctors advice requires me to gain weight,otherwise it wont heal.”
