how often are u going to see a guy knock a guy down with 10 seconds left and then win the title on the cards by 1 point?

      amazing.
I just saw your post, and yes you did. Again, sorry for the over-sight...

The fights of Chacon and Limon that I referred to as trilogy are actually their second, third and fourth fights. Their first fight was in Mexico and I confess that I tend to forget about that fight. Maybe it's because, up to now, I haven't seen it.

It was held at the time when only Chacon was a bit noticed owing to his prior victories over Chuchu Castillo and Danny Lopez as well as his two losses to Ruben Olivarez (his only setbacks prior to facing Limon, I think).

The second fight (the first in what I consider "my Chacon-Limon trilogy") ended in a bloody Tecnical Draw. The contest had to be stopped because Limon was bleeding badly from an eyecut that the ref declared as having been caused by a headbutt. Since Chacon was leading but was the one who was declared unfit to continue, it was declared a draw. It may be noted that Limon is a lefty while Chacon is orthodox, and often, when two such fighters meet, heads are bound to clash more often than usual. The chances of their heads clashing were even more because the two fought in the trenches.

And in the trenches they again fought in their third (what I think of as the second) meeting. It was such a nip and tuck affair that in the end, the judges weren't unanimous. Chacon won via Split Decision.

In that fourth fight (3rd in my mind), yes, Chacon dropped Limon in the final canto with little time left, but Limon dropped Chacon twice in a couple of the earlier rounds (3rd...or was it 4th and 10th?).

The first Navarette-Limon enncounter was also spectacular. Navarrete had Limon's number in majority of the earlier rounds(I think he was leading by as much as four points in two of the three judges' cards) when, with about as much time remaining as that in the last Chacon fight, Limon unleashed an uppercut, then followed it up with another uppercut to drop Navarette, with 14 seconds in the fight! What Chacon did to him, he did to Navarrete and did it even better!

Later, it was determined that the ref actually declared Limon the winner 8 seconds after the end of the 12th round of a scheduled 15-rounder! So, it goes to the books as a Limon KO victory at 3:08 of the 12th round.

Chacon, Limon, Navarrete and Boza Edwards had what could be considered a 4-way rivalry that lasted some 7 years (although in all that time, Navarrete and Chacon never got around to getting it on)! But the principal actors were really Chacon and Limon.

By the way, I think you know that the Monzon-Benvenuti fight that I was referring to was the 1970 meeting (they met again in 1971 when Monzon dropped Nino twice in the third, prompting the latter's corner to throw in the towel.)

Seems we share similar perspectives on several fights...

I just need to add to the earlier list:

Salvador Sanchez- Danny "Little Red" Lopez I: known as the fight between "Litte Red and the Little Known".

Salvador Sanchez- Danny "Little Red" Lopez II: in my eyes, the better of the two, which is amazing, because who would have thought any improvement can be made over the first?

        How could have I forgotten...!
