Paulie Malignaggi...Where does he go from here?

Yeah i know i have the italian flag for an avatar and all but dont mistake my heritage taking away from my real thoughts on this subject.

does anyone think malignaggi needs to step it up in competition and compete with all this big names in the welterweight division?

he proved he could hang with cotto for 12 rounds (that took a lot of heart...and a decent chin...even though he did get dropped) and he didnt just run to survive...he stayed in there and at times (late in the fight noteably) and traded with cotto...

who thinks (especially now since he beat ndou and is now the champ of his 140 lbs divison) that he should pack on the 7 pounds and go to welterweight for a few bouts...

or possibly take on hatton after mayweather (only if hatton loses because if hatton wins i dont think he's going to even consider malignaggi with all the money and new found rep he earns).

paulie is definately NOT a knockout fighter...he doesnt have much power (only 5ko's) but he DOES have some speed...he uses his jab VERY often and consistantly (also effectively)...he has a pretty damn good chin (especially since he took a beating from cotto but was able to go 12 rounds)

or he could stay at 140 and go for an attempt to unify the belts at 140...

what should paulie do (in your opinion) and what should be his overall goal?

ie. go for 140 title unification...go for hatton...etc in the future if he proves himself being a top elite fighter.

he has a LONG way to go but ever since he called out hatton its been something i been thinking about...

what about zab judah? i think would be a 2 or 3 to 1 favorite against zab.

basically he needs to build his record (not with just W's in general) but with wins against top competition...

i can see paulie beating judah and think that should be his next move and then continue to work his way up because i dont think hatton (or any other big names) want to fight paulie because he isnt considered a top P4P type of fighter...

    your thoughts?

    i like paulie
as far as competition he fighting good fighters
i believe he wants to fight the best
i think he should stay at 140 and try to unify that division
there's no need for him to move up to welter right now
if he can unify the division or atleast capture another belt he'll force a fight with hatton
hatton wont stay at welterweight after his fight with mayweather wheter he wins or loses
i think paulie is good enough to unify the 140 division
but he should stay outta 147 right now

p.s. i still dont have him beating judah

i agree with you on being able to unify the belts at 140.
the current champions of that divison seem like fighters paulie would be capable of beating.

i only bring up the 147 divison because thats where most of the competition is right now...its argueably the most competitive division in boxing right now and i think there is where he can find his fame that he seeks.

unifying the titles at 140 would be a great first step...

malganaggi is one of those guys that can run around and get a decision on alot of people

        you think so? i dont.

but if you do then that makes him just like someone else we all know... *cough* mayweather *cough*.

paulie isnt a runner...he dances sure...he danced around ndou and at points was jabing him and dancing circles around him...literally.

but he can also go toe to toe with you and he's not afraid to take a punch. (note: see cotto/malignaggi fight). he was taking a beating but was still willing to trade...

        so there you go.

I'm A Big Fan Of The Magic Man, But I Don't Think He Can Hang With The Big Boys At 147 Ibs.... At Least Until He Demonstrates His Abilities Against Some Top Contenders and Champions At Junior Welterweight.... I Really Couldn't Picture Malinaggi Being Competitive Against.....Say, Kermit Cintron...

            true...

i dont think cintron would knock him out...but he'd put a beating on him like cotto did or possibly worse but after seeing paulie take that beating and getting broken bones and STILL fighting i know it would take a lot to knock him out...he could get the ref to stop it via tko but not down for a 10 count (in my opinion).

thats one thing i like about paulie is his heart.

his biggest flaw (in my opinion) is he doesnt have a ton of power...only 5KO's tells you that...

if he had some KO power i think he'd be much much better.

Ricky Haton is the champion at 140lbs. Paulie has a paper title.

He should stay at 140, he is pretty small although his boxing skills may help him hang with the people at 147 I don't know if he can get to far with all the talent in that division. However, he can def. make some noise in the 140 pound division by trying to unify the belts. Maybe face a few mandatory's, personally I can appreciate when a prospect is brought up slowly to not win a title, but to be a champion and be able to beat all comers. Paulie can get it done and he still has a budding future ahead of him.

without power he has nothing to do on 147 imo, specially with the monsters that are there right now =P. i think paulie is a great boxer, but he should stay at 140 and like somone said, try to unify that division.

Personally Paulie is one of my favorite boxers and I would love to see him unify the Light Welterweight division... I think he is comfortable in the class and felt he lost a little of what makes him "The Magic Man" at 147... I would love to see take on a couple mandatory's then Hatton after Ricky loses to PBF (sorry not trying to make this post about that fight)...
