    Training Camp

I just read that Miguel Cotto started training camp on Monday August 20th. His fight is on November 10th.

That means that he will be in camp for about eleven weeks.

Miguel fought Quintana in December, Urkal in March, and Zab in June. So, he has been very active and hasn't had an opportunity to fall far out of shape. He is showing up for camp only two months after the Zab fight.

Does anybody have details about how a MODERN, elite training camp usually goes? We have all seen the Mayweather tapes, and we saw 24/7, but that isn't normal. PBF goes running at 2am when he leaves the strip club.

I have a training schedule for Evander Holyfield, and I'll post that.

ELEVEN WEEKS seems like a very long training camp for an active welterweight fighter. Guys usually start seriously sparring five to six weeks out. Why would Miguel put in so much work?

He's putting in work cause he knows Mosely is very intelligent and skilled and he wants to be ready for him. He's taking this fight very serious which is a good thing to do.

But isn't there a point of "too much"?

        You can definitely be overtrained.

he's putting so much work because he wants to win.

cotto knows (as well as anyone that knows ANYTHING about boxing) that mosley isnt going to be an easy fight.

cotto is very intelligent (as is his camp) and i think the hard, intense, and extended workout will do one of two things:

          A) make him look great against mosley and get him an easier fight (rather than if he trained on 6 weeks. he could look (possibly and argueably) the sharpest we've seen cotto...maybe...if the training is done correctly (no overexerting for 12 straight weeks) then cotto can surprise a lot of his critics.

          B) its going to make him look bad if he burns himself out before the fight.
cotto and his camp are going to have to make sure they pace him and dont get him looking slow and worn out come fight time.

i think more fighters (on this level...especially champions) should train more thoroughly so they are even BETTER trained and ready for the fight.

I think that Cotto possibly spent too much time in training this year. About 30-36 weeks.

For a seek-and-destroy type of fighter, does he need that much work? I haven't really seen him gas out. He seems to be a clean-living guy with a good family.

I just don't want them to burn out his legs, or his joints. Twelve weeks after a short two month layoff really seems like alot.

the regimine shown for Evander was 12 weeks and looked absolutely awesome. I will have to try to incorporate some of that into my sad little workouts. Im sure by now his team knows Cottos limitations but as you said he has had a busy schedule, of course look at the old school guys of the earlier era's. Training was a way of life and your talkin 15 rounds, thats where the men seperate from the boys, real championship rounds.

                but i think its good
i wish more boxers were like that
if i were to box professionally i would the same thing
i think marvin hagler, hopkins, mayweather are always in good shape or constanly trained

does anyone know their training regimen?

Velocity trainers have done an excellent job with him, you don't see Cotto having stamina problems anymore as he had with Malignaggi and Ndou, he's a lot stronger now, I don't think they'll over train him.
