The big story of the pay-per-view that was held at the at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah, was the impressive physical condition of heavyweight David Tua (48-3-1, 41 KOs), who weighed 237 1/2 pounds, the lowest since his decision loss to Chris Byrd in 2001. He demolished, as expected, Saul Montana (48-15, 42 KOs) in the first round with two of his trademark left hooks. Tua has now been 10-0-1 since the loss to Byrd, one has to wonder when he will take on a live body capable of testing him. [details]

It's good to hear that Tua seems to be taking his conditioning more seriously in that he's weighing in lighter than he has in recent outings. As for the win, I think it was just what Tua needed( 1st round one punch KO) and hopefully he'll take the momentum from this fight into his next.
As for his next fight, his team must be looking for a credible, but low risk, opponent to position him into a title shot sometime probably early 2008....Last edited by Derranged_; 08-22-2007, 10:32 AM. -
dont put too much statis in his quick work of montana. nice to see him in whats considered in shape for him at 237. but we got to see if he can go 4rnds yet.
boy, the tua of old would have a good chance against the clowns in the hvwt division.Comment

His quick work of Montana was good because it showed that he still has a devastatingly powerful and accurate left hook. Hopefully, Tua fights again this year and against a good opponent who will test him...Comment

Interestingly enough, I just looked at boxrec and noticed Tua has a September 9 bout scheduled against a TBA opponent; for all that's worth. If it's accurate; good to see Tua back in action so soon...Comment
