What if Zab Judah had a REAL trainer (Steward, Floyd Sr., Roach, Nacho) ?

I've always thought that the lack of professional training and boxing experience that Yoel has is a major reason why Zab Judah has underperformed.

Yoel never has advice other than "He can't hurt you, Zab. Go dominate this guy. Let your hands go. Hit him like Boom, Bam, Pow, Zow-wee".

Yoel has elected to largely train Zab in Brooklyn - despite that being where most of the distractions are for Zab.

Yoel also continues to guide the careers of his other sons, Daniel, Ezekiel, Jedadiah, Schmendrickiel, whatever.

Zab's talent in unquestioned. He had a sterling amateur career. Look at the way he matched Floyd for speed and power early. Look at the way he became a monster in hunting down Spinks. Zab dominated Micky Ward. He beat Junior Witter.

Would Zab have been a consistent, elite fighter if he had quality training/management? Who would you like to see training Zab?

      Fenix,

Who would you like to see Zab training with? Manny and Cintron? Or Goossen?

You might be right theat he'd be better off without daddy, but you can't change a man's nature.

He always loses to KT, Mayweather, and Cotto. (Who the hell knows why Baldomir beat him?) He matched up well with Mayweather and he can look better than most against that kind of fighter, but unlike Mayweather he folds and/or loses concentration when he has a tough guy and/or a big puncher in front of him.

He was brave against Cotto, but it wasn't merely a bad plan or lack of advice, he just doesn't have the tools to beat that kind of fighter.

(Spinks is a moot point b/c he deoesn't have the style that beats Zab)

Zab has more of mental issues that his trainer he is not focus enough and not consistant in the fight. He get less than a half of the fight superb but then get dominated most of the times

Zab had a DOMINANT first round vs Tszyu (i know, I know). Please remember that a trainer helps you to develop good defense. Where were zab's hands when Zoo caught him? At his sides. Pulling straight back.

Teh point of his training is to develop better fundamentals. To have more tools in his toolbox, and to develop a gameplan and to stick by it.

Also, I don't believe that Zab spars "tough". If he had some Kronk-type training, he wouldn't get frazzled every time he gets hit or feels some pressure.

Zab goes to Gleason's, they bring in some bustas, and he runs through those guys. And then he thinks he's ready.

Enzo Calzaghe would be a great trainer for Zab, he would be in the middle of nowhere with no distractions and a crazy little man making him work his socks off all day

Zab can win rounds, not fights. Kostya just walked him down. yeah Zab made a mistake especially early but that's his mentality. Even in the first round you could tell he was hotdogging and admiring his own speed. He didn't really have a chance to win that, no way he keeps it up for twelve rounds without mistakes, that's just not in him to do.

Mentally he is not a great fighter. You can't teach what he doesn't have. People get misled into thinking he's 'talented', which only means that if you abstract a few qualities they are impressive, but it's the whole man in the ring. To say he has more 'talent' and 'skill' than the guys who beat him (you're not saying this, but a lot have) is to look at abstractions.

I am failing to communicate my point.

A fighter isn't made on fight night. A fighter is made in training. The reason that Zab can only fight rounds, is because he has had ****ty training.

I asked the question of whether Zab would be a better fighter if he had better training. You say no, and then you give me TRAINING-RELATED reasons as justification.

                    Catch-22, anyone?

Do you feel that Zab's focus, tenacity, toughness, etc (all his weak points) would be better if he had a premium trainer from the outset?

                    Difference:
Zab was winning the first few rounds of Sworn Enemies. He gets back to his corner and Yoel is telling him "he's scared of you Zab. He got nuthin'". Meanwhile, Roger and Big L are telling Floyd to stay on the gameplan and keep applying pressure. Completely different mindset.

Do you feel that Zab's fight focus, ring smarts, and resiliency wouldn't be shaped by his EVERYDAY training? By living the lifestyle of a boxer instead of the lifestyle of a video groupie with fast hands?
