I wouldn't go so far as to call Jermain the "worst" Middleweight Champion in History. However I would say that he is one of the most overrated and flawed fighters in the division in recent memory.

But why? I'm still waiting for somebody a name of a middleweight champion since the 50's he could beat. I think that does make him the worst middleweight champion ever.

I don't regard Winky that highly, and he himself is what 36? Tarver is also an older fighter and someone I dont regard that highly.
The Hopkins that fought Taylor was not nearly the fighter of years before. Look at his fights prior against Eastman etc...
Hardly any gas in the tank to go 12 rounds.

well for the record i have winky winning against taylor when they fought (it was ruled a draw technically but i think winky did just enough) so there you go...

and secondly if hopkins had nothing left he should have retired instead of fighting taylor...

I honestly can't think of a prior Middleweight Champion who I could make a solid case as to why Taylor would beat him. However the Middleweight division itself had been stacked full of talent until the 90's. I think Taylor is just the byproduct of a bad era. I think prior Champions would eat Taylor for breakfast but again, that doesn't make him the "worst". I think he just fails in comparison.

If Taylor can beat Pavlik (which I don't think he will) then I think he will have silenced a certain amount of his critics, including myself.

and for all of those saying taylor beat and old hopkins i'd like to say this:

if hopkins was old then he should have retired if he couldnt compete with other fighters in their own weight class...

not continue on and lose 2 decisions to taylor.

hopkins looked very good against tarver and pretty good against winky...

                so there you go...

it would be one thing if he lost 2 to taylor then lost like 2 or 3 more in a row and decided to retire...then i would say he's old...

he is old age wise right now but he can still compete and is still pretty damn good for his age...actually he's excellent considering he's 42...not many can fight at this age...let alone at the level bhop does...

                so dont make excuses...

if you have seen Hopkins fighting pre-Joppy, you should know that he was VERY different, so...

                  cut the crap

and btw Hopkins never fought again at 160.

                    i agree.

if taylor can beat him (convincingly...not a robbery) then that will make me happier because lately i havent been too impressed by taylor (ie. against spinks and some other recent opponents).

i was a taylor fan from when i first seen him but he looks worse everytime i see him...not all his fault though...there is always someone else in the ring making it a bad fight too...for example...in the spinks fight spinks didnt want to fight and taylor isnt too good at thinking in the ring so it was pretty boring.

i still like taylor though...and will be behind him for when he fights pavlik i just think pavlik has a better chance than some are thinking...

Fine. That was Hopkins at his best that Taylor beat, just as the version of Ali that Leon Spinks beat.
