It is easier than you think.
First off, taxes will take nearly half that 30 million right off the bat. So let's say he actually made 17 million. Then you pay a percentage of your winnings to the trainer, usually 10 to 15 percent of the original purse. It has been said people screwed Tyson and actually took 20 percent but let's go with the 15 so now you’re down to 12.5 million.
Then there is whatever is paid to the corner staff (also said to have screwed him and took a percentage instead of a “flat fee” which is more standard). Then there is sanctioning fees (standard), whatever bull**** fees King took as Tyson’s promoter who is estimated to be from 5 to 10 million dollars. Splitting the difference and estimating staff, sanctioning, and “King” fees you’re down to perhaps 5 million dollars. Add in the fact that a divorce will take at least half of your original income before taxes and pay outs broken up over time I will estimate (kindly) that he is now down to 2 to 3 million.
Then you have your mortgages on your million dollar homes (I think he had two of three of those) That along would eat up a good portion of the 3 million. Then there is the upkeep of those homes (also got screwed to where people were charging him $50,000 just to mow lawns), giving money to all the leeches in his posse, and buying a bunch of stuff you don't need like tigers.
Again, I was being kind in my estimates but you can see with surrounding yourself with garbage your money can quickly go away. I’m not going to make apologies for any man but the fact is Tyson was and is developmentally disabled and people took advantage of him. Here is some advice for any of you future champions out there: once you start making real money be sure you get a lawyer to look over your contracts and also financial advisor from a reputable banking or investment institution. These people should not be associated with your manager, promoter, or your “posse”.Comment

Wealth = independence, freedom, living life without fear.
In that sense, Mike isn't wealthy. He's just broke.
Sure, his lifestyle may seem kind of appealling when he shows up on red carpets. But he has some HEAVY burdens.
And most of you pretty much know how you will be earning a living in 20 years. Mike does not. That is a scary feeling.Comment
