Joe Lewis was beaten at the elminator he was good but maybe unlucky or the guy he was facing was very hunger but then he was the best
The Ring Belt

Joe Louis was beaten by Max Schmeling, who had been beaten by Max Baer. This fight wasn't a title eliminator, Schmeling didn't get a title shot until after Louis had beaten Braddock to become champ. Of course there was a huge amount of politics involved in this whole adventure but Louis knocked out seven former champs and contenders between losing to Schmeling and getting a shot at the title. -
It does seem strange because DM beat Virgil Hill who ran the game on that division for years as well. Hill had both the WBA and the IBF belts when he fought DM, who had the WBO belt. I guess that means that the WBC champ had beaten the man before all this went down. I'll check into it I guess.the ring belt gets it right most of the time with its mechanism.
Wlad is not the man. Diaz is not the man.
because Wlad didnt unify ****
Casamayor is the man at 135, no two ways about it.
However it's still beyond me how the LHW lineage was put on RJJ and NOT on DM (of course I would have bet my house on RJJ beating DM if the fight ever happened, but still...)
EDIT: Jones had the WBC belt when Hill and DM squared off... and the WBC belt Jones won (this was before he lost by DQ to Griffin) was a vacant title. Quite confusing to me as well, because DM lost to Julio Cesar Gonzalez, who Jones had already beat, and didn't ever take the rematch with him. I have no ****ing idea how this happened.Last edited by Fox McCloud; 08-16-2007, 01:12 AM.Comment

WBC stripped Rocchigianni after he beat Nunn. Rocchigianni later sued WBC, won and almost sent them bankrupt. Right after being stripped Rocchigianni lost to DM in 96.It does seem strange because DM beat Virgil Hill who ran the game on that division for years as well. In a normal world, DM would have had all 4 belts by 1997. The fact that Jones ended up having all of them is puzzling considering they faced a ton of common opponents (beating them all).Comment

It's actually worse: Jones wins the interim title, which is turned to "official" title when Rocchigianni was stripped. Note that Rocchigianni was stripped while he was going to face DM, not exactly a bum...EDIT: Jones had the WBC belt when Hill and DM squared off... and the WBC belt Jones won (this was before he lost by DQ to Griffin) was a vacant title. DM basically retired after the Gonzalez fight, he was 35 or so...Comment

Even so, if DM beat the stripped WBC champ, then why the **** was he not The Ring champ? He held the other 3 belts, and beat the guy who was WBC champ... Was this like a current LHW Ring champ, where they abandoned the sanctioning body belts and just went for The Ring belt? Or is it like the current heavyweight belt, vacant because 1 can't fight 2 or 3 ever? I'm still confused.Comment

Wow, that's a long time for a belt to be vacant... where did you get The Ring lineage by the way? That is something I haven't found, but I haven't dug real deep or looked real hard either.ya not sure how it all happend but here is the time line..

it is damn confusing
Is it possible that Jones' reign starts in July and not in Sept. of 98? I am asking because July should be the date of the Jones-Del Valle fight. It would make some sense, (but it would still be ridiculous)ya not sure how it all happend but here is the time line..

Im going by wikipedia, i know somethings on that site may be wrong but its the closest thing i could find. has all weight divisions, and even states the rules, but still no clue how Roy got the belt ha. Im guessing he had to be the number one contender and fought the number three, leaving DM at two and getting left out. They obviously werent going by belts since Spinx left it, and had to just be going off ranking so all the alphabet titles played no role.

Question: Does The Ring still not recognize the 130 pound weight class? This can be easily answered if anyone knows for sure whether Barrera-Pacquiao will be for The Ring belt... because it is 1 vs. 3, and I know Pacquiao is about as close as can be to being the champion of the division, so they will probably let it slide as a 1 vs. 3 championship fight.Comment
