Cintron Ready For Williams In Dec.

Manny Steward: “We’ll Fight Paul Williams in December”
    By Gabriel Montoya

Moments ago, I had a conversation with Manny Steward regarding the plans of IBF Welterweight titlist Kermit Cintron for the rest of the year. As always, Manny was candid, funny, and straight to the point.

Gabriel Montoya: “The question on everyone’s mind, that I get asked more than any other to get an answer to is will Kermit Cintron be willing to face Paul Williams any time soon? “

Manny Steward: Absolutely. I love southpaws. I have no problem having my fighters fight anyone especially southpaws. Kermit fights every day with Andy Lee who is a very tall southpaw who fights with power. He fought him today in fact. He is the perfect sparring partner to prepare Kermit for Paul. Listen, I love Paul Williams. He is a great kid and one of my favorite people in boxing. But I really think that this is the welterweight showdown that will happen eventually.

GM: How soon would you like to have it happen?

MS: If Kermit wins in September, I would sign to fight Williams next in December. If someone offered us that fight right now, I’d be at the signing before anyone got there. I love that fight for Kermit. He is a tall welterweight himself who fights with power in both hands. He fights very smart. If that had been Kermit fighting Paul in the Margarito fight, he [Williams] wouldn’t have made it to the end. [Williams] is very good but I see a lot of flaws.

GM: It seems that word from the Goosen camp is that the fight is not a money fight at all.

MS: This fight has to happen. They are two young champions in the division. It’s a great fight full of action. I don’t train my fighters to win by points. I’d love to sign this fight and may the best man win. We wanted this fight before [Williams fought Margarito].

GM: Now I heard a rumor that you were offered a fight with Williams that you turned down.

MS: That’s an absolute, flat out lie. We were never offered the fight. From 147 to 154 I have problem matching Kermit with anyone.

GM: How does Kermit feel about the fight?

MS: Listen, we were watching Paul Williams fight and Kermit leaned over to me and said, “This guy doesn’t fight with power. He wouldn’t be able to keep me off him.” Kermit has no problem with the fight.

    GM: Thank you, Manny.

MS: My pleasure. Take care. I DONT THINK WILLIAMS WOULD TAKE THIS FIGHT

Good read I think Cintron is feeling himself a little too much though.

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS WILLIAMS PUNCH COUNT AND HOLDING........CINTRON WOULD HAVE TO TAKE SOME TO GIVE A MSSIVE RIGHT .......HIS RIGHT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD KO A HORSE..........AND THAT LEFT UPPERCUT IS NICE...... .....IT WILL BE EASY FOR KERMIT IF HE CAN HANDLE WILLIAMS PUCH OUT PUT.........WILL SEE

Kermit is a fool if he fights Williams and Manny is a fool for putting him in with him. Kermit has looked good but he still needs to fight some tougher guys before getting in the ring with Williams. Williams is like the worst fighter out there for Cintron right now. I still dont trust Citron enough yet for him to take this fight. I think his confidence is just waiting to be shattered again. I could see Williams coming in and throwing a 100 punches and then Cintron just goes into a shell. Cintron definatly has the power to hurt Williams but I dont think Cintron's style matches well with Williams. However, I would tune in for this fight like no other. It would definatly be exciting. In his last fight Cintron showed power like George Foreman had. Ive never seen anything like the way he hit that cat and he had some nice speed to go with it. That would be great to see that vs Williams

Well this would certainly be sweeter than the Cintron-Margarito rematch and Williams-Clottey bouts I sort of expected.

true and it would actually be perfect if Clottey-Margarito had there rematch to settle things for sure. Whoever wins will get alot of praise but whoever loses will be in alot of trouble in there career

Cintron loses this fight in a bad, bad way. I like him, but I don't like how instead of learning from his loss to Margo, he keeps talking about "erasing" it and how "it meant nothing". No, it means you need to work on your defense and your chin is somewhat suspect. Ignoring that problem doesn't make it go away. Williams would seriously hurt this kid.
