    Rafael Marquez: Complete Fighter

So during some time away i decided to watch Rafael Marquez, i have never seen him fight before, so i log on to you tube and watch him fight Mauricio Pastrana, this was just to give me an idea of what he was like before i watched the Vasquez Rematch. I seen good things written about Marquez, but i never expected the fighter i got.

This was like Christmas time for me, i got to watch a near complete fighter, he can do everything, box, ****, jab, right hand, he's evasive, great head movement, his body shot placement is pin point. I spent 12 rounds trying to work out how and why he picks the shots he does, i couldnt work it out, its a bit more than instinct in my opinion.

When a fighter lunges in and you hit him with uppercut-right hand combinations whilst moving backwards at the same time, thats special imo.

to me he is a thinking man's fighter, definitely better than his brother, which is saying something because JMM is world class also. But i was totally shocked at how good Rafael is, i just wish he was at a higher weight class like 130, because there isnt a doubt in my mind he could beat any fighter at that weight if he was a natural 130 pounder.

So then i watch the Vazquez fight, Marquez lost his game plan when he got hurt by Vazquez's left hook, he never recovered and lost his jab, but Marquez lost the fight, and if those two fight again, i expect him to win, he just needs to jab more from a distance because the only way Vasquez could ever beat him, was if Marquez let him get inside. The stoppage was a correct one no doubt, Marquez was hurt bad and wouldnt have recovered. It was an amazing fight, lots of skill, not brawling, both hitting each other with laser-guided accuracy and pure heart, infact, i respected Marquez even more, he moved up to 122 and took and the top guy.

I believe he lost the fight himself, he can comeback after a layoff and beat Vasquez, perhaps 5 months was not time enough for him to recover from the last fight.

Regardless Rafael Marquez is easily one of the best fighters in the world right now, look at the p4p top 10 right now, no way are some of those guys on the same level as Marquez as a boxer or fighter.

Imagine the coverage he would get if he was at 130lbs, i hope everyone else pays attention to this guy.

Vasquez can take Marquez's best shots but Marquez can't take Vasquez's best shots.

    Thats why he lost.

Marquez has to box Vasquez otherwise he'll get KO'd again.

When I saw his two fights with Vazquez I though that he lost some of his pop when he moved up in weight, but Vazquez is one tough SOB.

I have a feeling that Vazquez and Marquez are going to end like Corrales and Castillo after these wars...

How long have you been a boxing fan? I'm just asking.

Because he did knock out two HOF fighters in Too Sharp and Austin.

Yup, but Marquez could outbox him no problem next time, he just needs to jab more and not lose the plot when hit gets hit, i was gutted to see him lose, the better fighter clearly lost, but Vasquez took some great shots too and showed heart.

In a 3rd fight, id have to pick Marquez, although i could see Vazquez winning also.

p4p one of the hardest hitters in the game. Only his ability to take constant punishment is questionable. Yet most fighters from 125lb downwards would have wilted against Vazquez's barrage of shots. An exciting fighter but seems vulnerable at times, which only adds to his entertainment value.

Well i have seen a few Mark too sharp Johnson fights, but the not the ones against Marquez, Yes Mark Johson was world class also,

Yup, a bit slow on the marquez thing, i have never pretended to watch every fighter.

Iv'e been watching boxing for as long as i can remember, now i tend to follow it a little more seriously. (although im more into football and F1)

There is a difference between following boxing, and watching fights.

Rafael Marquez is a great fighter! There is no shame losing to Vazquez.

                    I'm not knocking you man.

I was thought it was strange that you'd praise him at what is approaching the end of the rope for him as a professional fighter. He's getting up there in age, and he's been a great fighter for a long time.

I don't think he has but 2 or 3 more years left in his career tops.

                    If that.
