Arum, King Side Against Floyd Mayweather

Don King and Bob Arum, two of the most successful boxing promoters in the history of the sport, have been bitter rivals for decades and rarely agree on anything. But, according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, the two promoters were on the same page when asked questions about the top pound-for-pound fighter in boxing, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. [details]

    They BOTH have good points.

I am totally feeling the comments FMJ made about the Morales fight. I'm tired of seeing certain fighters eternally getting big fights and/or title shots even though they have lost a bunch of fights in a row (Gatti, Morales, Holyfield, etc). I'm seeing more deserving guys sitting on the sidelines.

On the flip side, FMJ is naive to think that all fighters can promote themselves. Hell, Shane Mosley is an articulate guy. A bright guy. If he promoted himself, he would have fought Roy Jones just for the challenge. Shane turned down a $10 mil guarantee for a third fight with Oscar in order to go fight Winky for a fraction of that.

While Floyd doesn't need a promoter, he HAS needed that top-flight management team. They have effectively served as his de-facto promoter.

Floyd was making $3 million per fight for NDou, Bruseles and Corley. On WCB. PBF is insane if he thinks that was market value. Margarito just fought Williams for $1.2 mil. Hatton just fought Castillo for $2.5 mil.

But it is GREAT to see more fighters tackling the business aspects of the sport. I love that PBF is challenging the status quo, and asking the tough questions. Notice how King never addressed the corruption issue.

I'm glad that Floyd is showing business maturity... now stop buying Bentleys.

Chris Eubank admits every one of his WBO world title defenses were fixed. Since he said that, the BBBC banned him from ever attending a boxing event in Britain and Sky Sports banned him from ever appearing on a boxing show on that channel again.

The press were paid not to print the comments.

Here's one time he said it and was recorded saying it (without him knowing): htt p : // pure boxing .info/ boxing -news/ british - legend-chris - eubank - on - benn - watson -collins- calzaghe- east side boxing- com. html (delete spaces)

He said it publicly when interviewed by Sky Sports News at a George Best memorial thing last year at an airport in Belfast and immediately the BBBC (British Boxing Board of Control) contacted Sky TV to delete the footage and filed some sort of lawsuit against Eubank.

If you watch after the Ray Close fight (in Belfast, incidently), Don King is going wild in the ring shouting "The WBO should be barred from boxing!". That footage was also ordered to be deleted from the ITV archive and King was sued.

I UNDERSTAND WHAT EVERYONE IS SAYING I REALLY DO. FLOYD IS RIGHT ABOUT THE MONEY ISSUE AND THE MIDDLE MAN AND HOW HES MAKING MORE MONEY NOW. ARUM AND KING ARE RIGHT ABOUTFIGHTERS SHOULD NOT PROMOTE THEMSELVES AND ALL THAT STUFF. BUT YOU KNOW THAT KING BEING A PROMOTER WOULD DEFEND HIS FELLOW PROMOTER REGARDLESS IF HE LIKES HIM OR NOT THEY ARE IN THE SAME PROFFESION. IF ARUM LOOKS BAD THEN KING LOOKS BAD. LIKE I SAID EVERYONE HAD VALID POINTS IT IS WHAT IT IS

Both sides have their points, promoters make boxers big but they can take advantage of fighters, it's a real messy situation.

Promoters do do a big part of it.Although they take a huge chunk out your money. My suggestion is when you're really big and popular? Then get your own promotional company cause you can promote yourself then.

Arum and King are the biggest snakes in the business. Promoters might make these fighters money but they always find away to take it back.

What Mayweather is doing is great, I just hope he does a better job then Delahoya cause Delahoya is turning into another Arum or King, boxing needs some good promotors who looks out for fighters.

Don King should keep his dirty mouth shut, most of his fighters are broke today, even Mike Tyson who made around 350 mil in his career is broke.

Arum and King are bad for boxing, they fix fights, they steal money from their fighters, the pay judges, the pay referees, the pay fighters to take a dive, I hope they both disappear soon.
