Another delayed reaction to a liver shot.

If there's one thing the debilitating liver shot showcases time and time again it's the delayed reaction of the victim. Again we see it here tonight with Jhonny Gonzalez after Penalosa nailed him with that beautiful and clean punch right on the liver. Jhonny stumbles back for a moment showing no emotion and all of a sudden he collapses in agony. Where am I going with this you say? Of course we saw Oscar do the exact same delayed reaction against B-Hop. So to all those who doubt his motives and integrity in that fight, please never mention it again.

That's why I love body shot KO's, the fighter tries to fight it but his body is like, "**** this im going down", and he does and can't get up. It was a sweet shot and he needed it b/c he was losing.

So true, nothing better than a good body shot.

I think the biggest factor of any liver punch KO is that the fighter who receives the blow is hit when not expecting it. The punch itself doesn't have to be the hardest blow, just placed properly and unexpected. It's a ****in great punch!!!

I agree unexpected is the key. The Hatton bodyshot on Castillo was the same way. Hatton faked a right that put up Castillo's guard and then boom a left to the body that Castillo didn't expect.

I thought JG was going to get up, but when Lennox said he wasn't even breathing I knew he was done.

The Oscar 'dive' theory never made much sense from any standpoint. Hopkins was going to beat Oscar in any case, and Oscar if he wanted Hop as a business partner was going to get that in any case. Who the hell wouldn't want to be a partner in GBP?

and oscar would of gotten a lot more by losing by decision instead of a ko

I could only imagine what a body shot like that feels like(actually it's kind of painful just thinking about it); it must 'sap' all the energy outa ya and literally shock the fighter's whole body...

Anyone here have any first hand experience getting hit with a liver shot?

The only reason that even was, is because Mexican fighters are schooled to throw punches downstairs first and wear opponents down.

It's the same thing inversely as a headhunter getting knockout punches upstairs. For instance if you watch Kofi Jantuah, he throws nothing but haymakers upstairs.

Larry Holmes: Cut off the Head, the Body Will Fall

Dempsey: Chop the Tree and Bring the Head Down.

Whatever floats people's boat. I don't think it matters. Being punched is being punched plain and simple.
