Joe Mesi needs to just retire. He was never that great to begin with and with his recent head trauma's there's no reason to risk any further damage.

This ****in blows; I was looking forward to watching Mesi 'step up' against Williams. The article didn't state the reason; does anyone know why Mesi pulled out?...

First it was a head injury and now a back injury, he should just retire before he gets seriously hurt.

Mesi backs out with bad back!

            Thursday, August 9 2007

            By Flattop

“I’m going to miss not having him on the card but the show must go on,” said promoter Bob Oleson of C.A.M. Boxing of the withdrawal of heavyweight prospect Joe Mesi from the August 18th Pinnacle FightNite pay-per-view event. “Mesi would help put people in the seats and sell the pay-per-view, but David Tua is ‘The Man’ in the heavyweights.”

Mesi, a former world #1 contender, was scheduled to faces hardcore journeyman Sherman “The Tank” Williams (33-10-2, 19 KOs) in televised ten round co-main event but he has withdrawn from the showdown due to a back injury. “Jack (Mesi) called on Wednesday stating that Joe had been sparring and that he had was having problems with his back afterwards,” outlined Oleson. “Williams would have been a step-up from the opponents that Mesi has been fighting and he would have given Mesi all he could handle. I want all of my fighters at 100% mentally, physically and otherwise before they step in the ring.”

Mesi was placed under medical suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission shortly after his March 2004 bout with Vassily Jirov due to bleeding on the brain. In early 2006, a judge ruled that the medical suspension was only valid during the period covered by his existing boxing license and that Mesi was eligible to reapply for a license. Mesi has had six fights since his return but many states still refuse to license Mesi. Coincidentally, Mesi is scheduled to fight (an opponent to be determined) on September 7 at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Mesi is licensed in Michigan, having fought Jason Weiss back in September 2006.

Because he didn't want to get her pregnant.

Thanks, Floyd R. I think he re-injured his back; I remember him pulling out from a fight a couple months ago for the same reason. Not good news for Mesi fans...
