Problems between Cotto and Arum???
Collapse
-
This is either contrived drama to get out of the Mosley fight between the two, or Arum is cleverly trying to get Cotto out of it with out Miguel's knowledge.Arum told Cotto that he has until tomorrow to sign the contract to fight Mosley and that the offer made to him is firm and it won't change...
Cotto: "Easy. If they don't want to give us the warranties that we are looking for...The fight is off."
Cotto: "The one who decides if I'm going to fight is me...They don't have to be giving me any ultimatum."

Bob Arum doesn't want Miguel to even fight Judah again.
He knows the gravy train is almost out of gravy.Comment

Yeah he was a guest on FNF, and thats about it. ESPN News covered the Hopkins/Winky weigh-in. Hopkins was a guest on a couple of shows on ESPN including Jim Rome is burning. Oscar De La Hoya was on Mike and Mike promoting the fight, etc. Not to mention Winky and Hopkins have been around for years.ESPN did cover the fight. But remember, ESPN (DISNEY) and HBO (Time WARNER) are competitors. Not business partners. Still, don't you remember that Migs was on FNF in-studio? Friday Night Fights is a national broadcast that connects with the boxing fan.
HBO broadcasts nationally. The "Countdown" was available to all. The problem is the way that they have brought Miguel along.
First, Migs has zero personality. He talks like a ****in' robot. Even though Felix Trinidad didn't speak english, he has tons of charisma.
Second, they keep re-hashing Miguel in NYC every June for the PR day parade. First Abdullaev, then Malignaggi, then JUdah. By contrast, when they were grooming PBF, they exposed him to different geographies: Bruseles in Miami, Sharmba in Portland, fights in Grand Rapids, etc. You must make your fighter a national fighter. Cotto is in danger of becoming Gatti. Arturo has his 'home stadium' at Boardwalk hall. MSG is becoming that for Cotto. But Arturo only makes about 2 mil per fight.
Thirdly, they haven't drank the HBO Kool-Aid. HBO told Arum to move the Malignaggi date, and he didn't. He competed against their show. You can't bite the hand that feeds you. Then, he moved the Quintana fight to Showtime. SHO does a good broadcast, but Showtime has about 30% of the subscribers as HBO. You gotta show HBO some loyalty, so Ross Greenburg can show you some back. Would you trust a chick that cheated on you once before?
HBO made Mayweather, Delahoya, RJJ, Gatti, and Shane very rich. Once you solidified yourself in that stable, you are financially set.
I understand his personality is a factor, however the English definitely holds him back. He has been slowly learning, so you cant blame him for always answering in the same standard short sentences. Even then I understand he is a mellow, laid back guy (until he gets in the ring of course), and that hurts him as far as selling fights goes.
I agree with your other points though. Especially about fighting in different regions. And personally, I didn't even think the Judah fight should have been on PPV. Also I'm not arguing about what he should be making, and what he shouldn't be making. I don't know anything about that. I'm just saying that using the success of this PPV as an indicator of what the future PPV's will be would be a mistake.Comment

OK good then.Ok, the fight is on....It will be announce later today...
Arum was going to pay Cotto 3.5 Mills, the same amount he was going to get for the Margarito fight...Cotto wanted 4 to 4.5 mills...It seems they have an agreement. The contracts are not signed yet, but still Arum and Golden Boy are going to announce the fight soon..

Him wanting more dough for the Mosley fight is understandable. Mosley being a p4p guy who has headlined at least a dozen PPVs, and Margarito being a guy who is a good fighter, but not very well known.Comment
