I have never been the biggest Calzaghe fan but if he beats Mikkel Kessler, then the Pavlik vs Taylor winner, and then Chad Dawson I will say he is the best fighter of this era. And the only way Mayweather could enter into the argument is by beating Hatton, the Cotto vs Mosley winner, and then Paul Williams or Margarito (not De la Hoya II)

great isnt the word...perhaps best....i dnt see the Dawson appeal myself....he's too raw..if he beats him..then people will juust say the same as with lacy..he was to raw....Kessler / Taylor ....and whoever has belts at light heavyweight...and its a very good resume.
PBF does need fights...and Cotto,Mosely..and maybe Williams....then i dnt think it can be disputed that he is the best...to beat Judah/Hatton/castillo/Cotto/Mosely/Williams ....id defy anyone to say he isnt the best then.....but it wont happen because he wont make the numbers he made against DHL or Hatton against someone like williams..unless williams gets himself a couple of belts..and a long unbeaten run.....personally..if Hatton gives mayweather trouble...but PBF still wins...it sets it up for Cotto...who is slower then Hatton..but punches harder...but we shall seeComment

sure "IF" Mosley came to beat Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Mayweather and Hatton...he COULD be the greatest fighter of this generation...
IF Pacquaio beat Barrera II, Marquez II, Guzman, Diaz, Valero...then he COULD be the greatest fighter of this generation
if "I" decided to box tomorrow and beat Calzaghe, Hopkins, Winky, Taylor, Pavlik, Kessler, Dawson, Tarver...then I COULD be greatest of this generation...
too many IFs...
Mayweather's accomplishments exceed Calzaghe's at this point in their careers....Comment

Calzaghe is not the best fighter of this era no matter what. he is a great fighter but not the greatest of this era. I would say floyd or Bernard hopkins, or Manny Pacquio is the best of the era. if Calzaghe would have beat Roy Jones or Bernard Hopkins when they were in thier primes, then he would be the best of the era. he have not proved it yet. the biggest names on his record is Lacy and Eubank.
and i really dont think Calzaghe can beat Chad Dawson. Dawson is too young and Elusive for him. Calzaghe always had problems with slick boxers like that. Calzaghe looks good against people who has styles that are just made for him and come to him. like Lacy and Manfredo. If he had problems with Robin Reid, Imagin what Dawson would do to him.

If Calzaghe beats all the quality fighters at supermiddle(and there are plenty of guys in there especially the guys who are moving up and new kids like Froch, Inkin, etc..) then he can contend.
Because the middle to light heavy area is very deep, there are like a good half a dozen or so of very good fighters in there.Comment

One thing people don't realise was that Robin Reid was a very good fighter when he fought Calzaghe and not much indicates that Dawson is any better.Calzaghe is not the best fighter of this era no matter what. he is a great fighter but not the greatest of this era.
