Boxing history is so interesting, especially when it involves Jake LaMotta
Actually, when Cerdan died he was coming back for a second attempt at a rematch as it was originally scheduled for Sept of that year, but because of a little piece of irony involving LaMotta hurting his shoulder (muscle strain in right shoulder) in training only a few days before the rematch was set, the fight was pushed back to Dec, and the rest is an unfortunate and tragic piece of boixng history.

      Interesting

I wasnt around then so im not sure what the impact of Cerdans death was, but he was quite easily one of the most popular fighters of the post WWII era.

I wish they had cameras rolling when he fought Zale. From what i read, it sounds like one of the greatest fights ever! Part of my reasoning is that Zale actually retired in his corner, which is an anticlimactic ending. In order for it to win FOTY, the previous 12 rounds had to be amazing

I have nothing against what LaMotta did. For every Basilio who stood up to the mob and won, there are fifty fighters who never got a shot and just took shots for chump change.

It has nothing to do with his talent, he's just such an interesting fighter. His whole life is like a movie.

All his fights have an intesting back story. So much to learn about his career and its all intesting. Nothing boring about LaMotta.

The book and Movie RAGING BULL was amazing... i love the guy.
