you know liston came from a family of 25? his dad used to whoop em so badly that he'd goto his father when he wasnt whipped a day, and say 'Don't I get a whooping today?' I'm not bull****ting, he had the scars to prove it. when he was like, 12, he stole all his brothers pecans off his tree and brought em to the city, sold em for a bus ticket...to, I forgot where...a large city. chicago i think..He gets there, and asks a bum about his mother, who tells him where she is...gets there, starts living with them, then starts doing all kinds of dirt...But the ****er only had one shirt, this yellow checkered shirt, so it was easy for the cops to hem him up...He became known as the 'Yellow Shirt Bandit', he actually mugged a guy once that netted him five cents. His best lick was a drugstore, netting 36 bucks...He was caught later that night walking home from a bbq joint. read about all this in a book called, 'king of the world' by david remnick, btw.

and thats the story of a young liston. good poker face on him, as well...I haven't seen as much of him as I have the other fighters though, plus I assumed the thread starter meant current fighters.

Of the more modern fighters I think Lennox Lewis beats 'em all for poker faces. But all time? Watch Joe Louis' poker face: That man didn't look human in the ring!

            barrera

i remember when he would just walk in the ring and even during his fights, and when he would sit in his corner at the end of rounds, his face would show ZERO emotion, he had no facial emotion at all, his face was just stone cold, he was in the zone, just lookin mean.

"To be the best boxer, you have to be the best liar."

A classic quote from Michael Gerard Tyson.

Tyson for many years was the best liar. He portrayed the image of a relentless, unphasable, immortal monster who had no weakness. He intimidated and scared the living **** out of all of his opponents. Then Douglas exposed him, called his bull**** successfully. The facade was over for Tyson.

Boxing is a lot like poker, in that you can't let your opponent what you have in your hands. If an opponent doesn't think you have anything that he should be worried about, he's going to kick your ass. You need to present the aura of danger in order to keep your man from calling your bluff.

poets right it was lewis. Not a mean face just a poker face. He always looked like he was just about asleep or very stoned when he entered the ring.
