In a sensational fight, Israel Vazquez (42-4, 32 KOs) regained his WBC super bantamweight against Rafael Marquez (37-4, 33 KOs) in a bloody slugfest at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. Both fighters traded bombs for the duration. In a classic round three, Marquez was rocked but came back to cut Vazquez over both eyes. Marquez was cut under the right eye. Both fighters continued to blast away and the right side of Vazquez' face was a mess after the end of round five. Vazquez dropped Marquez with a left hook early in the sixth and after a brutal follow up barrage the bout was stopped at the 1:16 mark.
