Joe Calzaghe vs Mikkel Kessler poll

Well saidKessler is like two Lacys , he is much bigger , much faster , has a great defence , has one of the best hard jabs in boxing and he punches in combinations behind that jab , he can seem robotic because of his european style but he has good footmovent and tight well taught technique ,, he outboxed Mundine who has amazingly fast hands , that fight is a better gauge than what many think , a sneaker as far as form goes , people blow Mundine off but his speed is great and his defense to land clean on is great also ,, Kessler had back injurys in that fight and boxed beautifull ,, that tells me that he wont have any trouble with Joes speed ,, Joe power is not that great either , he has a lot of tkos but not many KOs because he is volume not power ,, but that volume and crowding could give Kessler lots of problems ,, If Kesslers jab is on the mark it will have Joe in trouble because it will prop him as it real solid and that will lead sooner or later onto Kesslers big guns ,,,, Kesslers trump card is his jab and thats what this fight is all about , if Joe can get past it he will get it , if he cant Kessler will and either side can stop the other depending who is on what side of the jab ,,, then we have Joe is 36 and Kessler is 28 , this is the same career point when Hatton fought 36 yr old KT , I reckon the age in the fight will come into it somewhere , Kessler can fight a strong 12 rnds and comes in shape and carrys enough power that he could still knock you in the last , if you write Kessler off you are blind because he is a live one and a country mile ahead off Jeff Lacy .
I see this as great fight and I cant wait for it , Kessler by mid KO , an old champ has got to go sooner or later ,, and they get old in one night ,, 36 is getting to where things start to happen when the right opponent turns up , it was never going be a tv star or bika ,,, but with Kessler , the playing field just changed dramatically ,,, If Joe can win this fight its a great effort and I will definitely give hi big Kudos for beating Kessler ,,, if he can .

Did anyone notice how one-sided Calzaghe vs Lacy was. There could have been two copies of lacy's in the ring like if cloning was possible and Calzaghe still would have whooped Lacy. Who ever wins this fight better get credit.Comment

I agree. And what sets Kessler apart from Lacy is that he is experienced, has never struggled against anybody, and has quality in both defense and offense. The same goes for Joe.
It's a shame it won't go down as a superfight in terms of popularity, as they are both to unknown overseas. But there is no doubt in my mind we have a superfight when it comes to pure boxing skills.Comment

I live in America, I know both of them.
People aren't boxing fans if they don't know who they are.Comment

I only have 4K left, when my other bets are covered. But I’ll bet them if you don’t mind the small amount. (or lets make it 5, since it’s not until nov.)
I like the odds.
I believe you are in for a surprise on nov 3.
According to many of the JC-fans on this board, Kessler’s style is perfect for Calzaghe, but style wise, I think Calzaghe is even more of a perfect target for Kessler. He likes nothing better than a fighter who rushes in from the distance, and it being a southpaw should only fit his style even more.
Calzaghe is often sloppy in his defense, especially in the later rounds. If Kessler doesn’t pick up on that, his coach will. That's another difference, Kessler is disciplined as hell, Richard say’s and Kessler does. The next time you watch a Kessler fight, pay attention to his concentration when he’s in the corner, I can’t remember anybody else having such a sharp conversation.
Those of you who judge Kessler from watching fights like Beyer or Andrade, still have a lot left to see. Beyer got KO’d as Kessler was just warming up, and it was more or less insane to watch him fight “wood chin Andrade”. Kessler could just throw bombs at him all night, instead of it ever becoming a real style showcase.Last edited by Peder; 08-05-2007, 04:46 AM.Comment
