If you point to anything that's sad...........it's the fact you were a die hard judah fan then abandoned him, you were a die hard Hatton fan and now are ripping on him, and you were never a big Floyd fan until now.

Ok ok ok I have been reading this site and fed up with some of the people from American on here and their narrow minded inward thinking attitudes. Of course 9 times out of 10 you will show favouritism towards a fighter from your own country but making sweeping generalisations such as “all uk fighters have padded records” what the hell, like someone already mentioned Jeff “I’m going to destroy Joe C” Lacey, Calvin Brock, Shannon Briggs?? I could name similar amounts of British fighters (Audrey Harrison for one!) it’s the way of boxing these days to build up unbeaten records. I don’t necessarily agree with that but there we go.
Right on the subject of Hatton versus Mayweather lets just say first WOW what a fight this could be!!
But let’s get something straight.
Hatton has been in with anyone of Mayweather's class, this is true in my opinion and it’s a big test for Ricky AND EXACTLY WHAT BOXING NEEDS.
Now I have that out the way lets move onto some other bits of business, and I think this is closer than people think.
“People are going to start ****ing on about Ricky’s cuts”
- This is very possible, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised to see him cut in this fight, however, Tsyzu didn’t cut him and he hit him with some booming right hands (Ones that sent Judah off doing the chicken dance!) – More on KT in a minute… I think Ricky may get cut but it’s a means to an ends. He has to walk Mayweather down give him no time to pop of a couple of jabs and move, conversely Mayweather’s fragile hands have to be put into the equation. And the way I see it that’s evens, Ricky could get cut round one and seriously hamper his chances, conversely Mayweather could break his fist and really struggle to keep Hatton off for 12 rounds with only one hand.
“Hatton is a wrestler”
- Utter rubbish, if you watch Hatton closely he is a better boxer than people give him credit for, yes he has a mauling style but some of those body shots are frightening, and I think his speed is underestimated. Yes he does wrestle a bit but at the end of the day they are in a fight not a tickling competition, for the purest Mayweather is a joy to watch at times however, Ricky in my opinion is more box office than Mayweather.
- It will be interesting to see how Mayweather deals with it. He will have to put on a master class in my opinion and if he does fair play, difference is after the fight Ricky Hatton being the man he is will hold his hands up and say “best man won”…..can’t see Mayweather doing the same…..
“Hatton isn’t in Mayweather's class”
- Mayweather is a brilliant defensive boxer, and as boxers go is probably P4P below 140lbs. NOT in my opinion above. His amazing defensive skills are what have got him belts above 135 not anything else, I mean that’s the only reason James Toney could compete at heavyweight! He hasn’t fought anyone of high risk really since Castillo. Gatti (was washed up as much as I love him) Henry Brussels and DeMarcus Corley?? I mean the 140 division at the time was teaming with talent, Mayweather chose a careful route through it winning a title and moving up to the next division gobbing off on his way. 147 he fought Mitchell (shot) Judah (stamina issues and temperament) and Baldomir (therefore the pay day). So you see fighting Hatton is as dangerous to Mayweather as it is Ricky. Below 135 Mayweather has been in the ring with the highest class of fighters, over 140 I don’t think his record is any better than Hatton’s. Yes Ricky’s record is slightly padded but its all building towards that big pay day, building a fan base, that’s the business
Judah gave Mayweather problems before he self destructed, and if De La Hoya had not run out of steam I think he would have beaten Mayweather. Those 30 sec busts of punches were bothering Mayweather and to be honest Mayweather from what I could see didn’t connect with a great deal. Oscar took a lot of his punches on the gloves.
If Mayweather has beats Hatton he ranks up to P4P up to 140 in my opinion he will have to then take on Mosley or maybe a real welterweight like Williams, Cotto or even Citron (who looks like he has learnt to fight with both fists!)
“Hatton has no defence Mayweather will knock him out”
This is possible if Mayweather hits Hatton as he is moving in with one of those hooks however, Hatton walked through the most fearsome right hand in the division at the time (KT’s) and didn’t even blinked and as is always said the last thing a boxer loses is his punch, therefore has Mayweather got enough pop to discourage Ricky?
“Hatton is very vulnerable at 147”
Yes he is against a real welterweight who is likely to come in the ring nearly 154 than 147!! His regime for 147 changed 5 weeks before the fight, camp didn’t go well he took a welterweight full blown shots and I had him winning by a round. A lucky boy still I think people should look at the positives, until Hatton and then Mosley Collazo was avoided and dangerous, couldn’t see Mayweather with his formula for fighting getting in the ring with him…. I don’t think Ricky will be 147, I think they will try and be cute and come in about 144, maybe 145? Do a similar camp as if he was at 140 just not dehydrating as much. This should mean he is fresher for the fight. I just hope they can keep him off the pies in the mean time!! You have to in that respect have a lot of time for Mayweather he is an awesome professional and I respect him for what he has done in the sport.
Anyways just a couple of my thoughts Leonard vs. Duran 21 years ago was two very similar styles, if Ricky can make Mayweather fight then this could be very interesting. If not then Ricky maybe in for a long night if he cant slow him down with body punches in any respect it’s a great fight to get people talking and debating!Comment
