    Taylor-Pavlik 24/7 Show???

Their fight was still two months away, but there are a couple of conclusions one could infer from the fact that the middleweight champion of the world and the No. 1 contender each weighed 177 pounds when they walked into the Tavern on the Green in Central Park Tuesday afternoon.

The most obvious is that as middleweights go, these are two big men, and in what he vows will be his farewell to the 160-pound division, Jermain Taylor will for once be picking on somebody his own size.

The other is that given the modest lunchtime fare of cold cuts, melon, and berries, the likelihood is that Taylor and Kelly Pavlik also walked out of the Tavern on the Green weighing no more than 177 pounds apiece.

Ken Condon of Caesars Atlantic City, whose hostelry is bankrolling Taylor-Pavlik, pronounced it “a very, very hot fight,” and offered as evidence that in the three weeks since the bout was confirmed ticket-buyers have snapped up every available seat on the floor of Boardwalk Hall despite the absence of advertising, or, indeed, a formal announcement.

This is known in the business as a “soft sell,” although the soft price of the $400 top ticket might have something to do with it as well.

HBO, having shelled out pay-per-view numbers for a fight that will be shown on World Championship Boxing, has committed to hyping Taylor-Pavlik as if it were a PPV show, including what Ross Greenburg described as a “24/7-style countdown” that will commence on September 22 and run every night for a week before the fight.

What? Did any of you see this coming? I didn't. There's going to be a show similar to that of the De la Hoya- Mayweather one for this non PPV fight- wow!! Does this mean that Mosley-Cotto or Mayweather-Hatton is likely to have a show, too? What do you guys think about this??

    WOAH!!!!

    Thats Awsome! and surprising!

thats outstanding news for the sport of boxing. no doubt about it.

If Pavlik wins, HBO and Boxing has itself a new megasuperstar on there hands.

If Taylor wins, almost the same thing but on a lesser scale i guess. Cause he's already been around...

And if Pavlik wins, in what is SURE to be an all out action fight, then theres even MORE hype for the rematch!

Isn't it shocking that HBO is pumping money into this fight without it being on PPV? I was blown away when I read that.

its Long term investment. Very smart if you ask me.

Cause this fight is gonna be so entertaining you know? All the fans are gonna want to see both guys again.

So whenever they are in a big fight again, it'll be put on PPV, and the Numbers will be significantly better because more fans are gonna know about each guy.

It's a type of investment in boxing, deferring profits for future gain, that we don't see much anymore.

It's a very good move. They've been banking on Taylor for a few years, and he's looking like a disappointment. But the fight comes along that solidifies a star one way or the other. I made a thread about this when they first put Miranda on HBO, but I got hammered for it. ****** ****s though didn't understand why Miranda was on TV in the first place, only to eventually make Taylor look good.

HBO noticed that DLH-Mayweather did extreme numbers, a lot to do with the marketing. I suppose they would like to try it again and see if this would be a regular thing for big fights.

I bet they looked at the marketing expenses and put it against the profit and drooled.

It took about 13 years of marketing DLH to be able to do those PPV numbers. And then Mayweather chipped in an extra 5-6% of the viewers

It's the type of marketing strategy that I see as almost dead, really.

Yup. everyone wants the risk without the reward.

This will really pay them off a ton of money though, so there really isnt any risk if you know what i mean.

Unless a fighter backs out at the VERY last second or something.

I mean, theres just no way this fight wont be extremely entertaining
