    BERTO - hype job ?

Just watched Berto being dumped on his ass by Cosme and cant see what all the bluster is about?

Yeah he is a contender - but isnt setting the world alight yet?

A puncher would have put him to bed for the night...

    Who seen the knockdown?

Cintron is way ahead of Berto as a pro.

if dude was relaxed in his fight against cosme. then he would have won impressively.

cintron has physical advantages, but mentally is a very weak fighter. If you see Cintron goto the canvas, he doesn't get up as the same guy.

berto went up against a complete veteran in Rivera, did pretty good i thought aside from getting dropped with that beautiful left uppercut that went up between his guard.

thing about cosme is he aint the bum people make him out to be. a guy good enough to move his head with your punches is not easy to defeat. Cosme was seeing the right hook and moving his chin to his right, lessening the impact of the punch almost completely. guys like that are difficult to get outta there. I think Berto should've used more feints, since Rivera respected his power so much.

Berto is a bit overhyped in that every major boxing writer is all over his nuts. It's often the case when they're told enough times that so and so is the next big thing, because it's not as if most "top" writers can think for themselves when it comes to scouting talent. On the rare occasion they do step out and declare someone "it", there's usually an agenda behind it (like Joel Julio just so happening to be a part of Main Events)

But he's not a complete fraud, in fact not one at all. It's not the 1990's and NY boxing writers labelling Shannon Briggs the next great heavyweight or anything like that. Berto's got mad talent, and will go far, whether or not the welterweight division thins out anytime soon.
