Is One of the Great Boxing Years Before Us?

Granted, we haven't seen all the fights...BUT...considering what's on paper and what we've seen...HOLY ****...This might be the best combination of good business fights and good fights period (intended and surprisingly) along with great planned matches I've ever seen in a single year. Sure, not all the fights were great, but the matchmaking has been impeccable. Here's what we've had by division so far of note:

    112-under
Sakata v. Parra (III), Vasquez (II); Kameda on verge of becoming WBA mando
    Darchinyan-Donaire
Wongjonkam-Naito (III; IV may be upcoming)
    Calderon-Cazares (upcoming)

    118-under
    Munoz-Nashiro
    Mijares-Arce

    122
Marquez-Vasquez I&II, likely Caballero v. winner at years end
    De Leon-Bautista (upcoming)

    126
    Nothing special, but Linares arrived

    130
    JMM-MAB
    MAB-Pac II (upcoming)
    Soto-Guzman (upcoming)

    135
    Katsidis-Earl, Amonsot
    Diaz-Freitas; Julio Diaz (Likely upcoming)

    140
    Hatton-Castillo
    Harris-Witter (upcoming)

    147
    Mosley-Collazo
    Judah-Cotto
    Margarito-Williams
    MOSLEY-COTTO (HIGHLY LIKELY)
    MAYWEATHER-HATTON (ALLEGEDLY DONE)

    154
    DLH-PBF
    Ouma-Mora (coming)
Forrest-Baldo (Hate it, but it will be a good win or get out fight)

    160
    Miranda-Green, Pavlik
    Taylor-Spinks (******, but both elite)
    Sturm-Castillejo II
    Asikianen-Sylvester II
    PAVLIK-TAYLOR (COMING)

    168
    Bute-Bika
    Kessler-Andrade
THE BEST FIGHT IN BOXING: KESSLER-CALZAGHE (COMING)

    175
    Dawson-Adamek
    Johnson-Griffin
    Hopkins Wright
    Dawson-Tarver (Likely)

    190
    Mormeck-Bell II!
    Maccarinelli-Braithwaite
    Mormeck-Haye (coming)

    Heavyweight
    Peter-Toney II
    Chagaev-Valuev
    Chagaev-Ibragimov (coming)
    Vitali comes back; Povetkin emerges

Just a top to bottom solid year all over. I'm sure I missed a lot too. If you can't convert boxing fans off this, you suck. And I'm missing good stuff here to top it off.

If all the proposed fights come off, yes, this is the greatest year I've ever seen in boxing

It has been a great year so far, and with the recent announcements of excellent matchups from late Sept through early December, it is shaping up to be the best year for boxing in a long time.

Not much that interests me between now and late September, but then there will be some of the best matchups imaginable for two months:

        Mayweather vs. Hatton
        Mosely vs. Cotto
        Calzaghe vs. Kessler
        Povetkin vs. Byrd
        Brock vs. Chambers
        Ibragimov vs. Chagaev
        Dawson vs. Tarver
        Maskaev vs. Peter
        Pavlik vs. Taylor
        McCline vs. Vitali
        Mormeck vs. Haye

There's the potential for several more good matchups during this time as well, since there's another dozen top fighters who are not scheduled but due for another fight around that time (Wladimir, Malignaggi, Williams, etc.).

Shame about the heavies? I actually thought they started to come together.

this has got to be one of the best year of the decade for boxing, and now at long last some of the heavyweight title holders are fighting each other.
