    Cotto vs Mosley analysis/predictions

    HTML Code:
cotto has problems with guys with speed, good ring generalship, and some what power.

cotto isnt' bigger than mosley and he doesn't have the tightest defense either
I agree and disagree. Everytime Cotto has been in trouble; he is the one controlling the ring, so I disagree that he has problems with guys with good ring generalship. I also disagree that he doesnt have a tight defense, I think he has a very tight defense. Chin tucked down, gloves covering his chin/cheeks. His problem is that he sits on his punches, and he squares up, and when he does that he will get hit. I agree though, that he definitely has problem with guys with power. Cotto doesnt have that one punch power, and before he breaks down his opponent, he can be knocked out. He also has problems with fighters with speed, but thats not the whole equation. Cotto can handle fighters with speed; he really has trouble with fighters with FOOT speed. Fighters that can "side-step", fighters that will throw punches with angles which Cotto wont see coming.(Corley and Judah)

Mosley has power, but not the same as before. And from what I remember; he does have great hand speed, but he doeant throw his punches in weird angles. Cotto will see the punches coming.

    Prediction:

Cotto WILL NOT knockout Mosley. Mosley's best chance is to catch/hurt Cotto early.(As in every Cotto fight) Mosley MIGHT knockout Cotto, but he has to do it before the 6 round. After that, Cotto's punches will begin to debilitate Shane. I see Mosley winning 4 of the first 6 rounds. Cotto winning 4 of the last 6 rounds.(ooops thats a draw) Cotto will somehow pull it out; 7 rounds to 5, or 6 rounds to 6 with Mosley taking a knee sometime in the fight.

that is a good analysis i think. i do however think that cotto will TKO mosley. mosley is gettin old and his reflexes aren't what they once were. he will look good for the first half of the fight but cotto will keep coming and pounding him to the body, and eventually it will wear mosley down.

I think Mosley might have something left in the tank. I agree that he has aged but if you watch his first fight with Vargas, then his second, and then his reflexes against Collazo- you'll see some slight improvement I think. As if he is getting his confidence back together, and that getting back with his father has seen his training focus shift back to speed and combinations. He's not the fighter he was- but I think a prime Mosley would KO Cotto...so that goes without saying.

Cotto is younger, a solid fighter- with the confidence of a perfect record. Mosley tried to bounce back from the losses to Wright with smaller fights against Estrada and Cruz- which led people to think he had lost more than a step or two. His performanes against Vargas were better- but he jumped back to junior middleweight for those. The Collazo fight impressed most people as Mosley dominated...but more than a few say he would have knocked Collazo out if he was still the same fighter. That said, we haven't seen Shane fight at 147 consistently for about five years when he lost to Forrest. Then he moved up and fought Oscar and Wright. I think that he is a better fighter at welterweight and that the Collazo fight shows that he's just needed to get accustom to the weight. At his age jumping back and forth is doing him no favors.

Prediction: We see a solid Mosley with good reflexes and some nice combinations. I think Mosley can steal rounds by flurrying- like Leonard did against Hagler. Cotto turns out to be the agressor while Mosley uses his speed and experience to box. If Cotto can't figure Mosley out- or make him show his age- Shane pulls out a razor thin decision mostly by using a volume of punches, often at the end of rounds, to offset Cotto's agression.

Mosley by scores of 115-113 x2 and 113-115 (SD winner.)

You know what, i've been very down on Cotto's chances to win this fight, but I'm starting to think he might be able too...

He handled Judah's speed ( it took him a round or two ** full of body shots)) to adjust, but he eventually did) and I just don't think a guy of Mosley's age can handle those body shots for 12 rounds. Sure Mosley is gonna win some rounds big, and I think he will be ahead on points at the time those left hooks catch up to him, but I'd predict a Cotto knockout in the 10th round. I honestly can't see a guy with as many fights as Mosley, and years, wearing on his body withstand Cotto's brutal body.

        Cotto Tko 10.
