Former world super flyweight champion Martin “Gallito” Castillo (31-2, 17 KO’s) takes another step on the road to meeting champions Alexander Munoz and Christian Mijares on Friday. His next appearance is set to go at the Isleta Casino resort in Albuquerque, New Mexico against Oscar Andrade (36-18 ) and will be televised on Telefutura.
“I’m feeling ready. We’re taking careful steps. I got out some of the rust during my last fight,” said Castillo who knocked out Jorge Romero in Tijuana on May 12. “Andrade is a good step up. He’s very tough and has been in the ring with some good competition. I think I’ll get in some quality rounds.”
After suffering career threatening cuts over his brows in a fight which lost him the title against Nobuo Nashiro, Castillo went under the knife and so far his recovery has gone smoothly. “My eyebrows feel like new. I don’t think cuts will be a problem in the future,” Castillo said. “I’m getting my body back to speed and it’s responding well.”
Castillo is considered an excellent technician and stylist inside the ring. He claims he’d be more than happy to face off against either of the two highly regarded Superflyweight titlists Christian Mijares or Alexander Munoz. “Against Mijares, I’d do very well. I think our styles compliment each other very well,” Castillo said. “We’re very similar in a lot of ways. We’d make for a good action fight since we’re both boxer punchers.”
