Does Winky get credit if he wins too?
I think Winky will definitely get credit to his legacy by most as he is the one moving up vs an old great who doesn't look his age in the ring.
Now Hopkins is fighting Winky and is considered the naturally bigger man. Well he is. However I have always looked at Winky as a decent sized Jr Middle who could easily make middle and super middleweight. He has the frame, shoulders, etc for it. Plus he is the type of fighter who has the technical skills to give any bigger man some trouble (see Taylor). Then the cherry on top is that Hopkins is meeting him at a catch weight so Winky doesn't have to hit the 175lb limit and Hopkins has to weigh in less than 175.
Either way, in the long run it is impressive for both men to have each other on their records. Sure their detractors will point out the smaller greats they've beaten (DLH, Mosley, Trinidad) and their major losses to guys equal in size (Vargas, Taylor) in close fights. However, a win here goes a long way in terms of name recognition and the fact that many have each in their top 10 P4P.
Hopkins already has his "move up in weight" triumph over the #1 guy at light heavyweight. Winky is looking for the same.
This fight may be a few years too late, but it still means something for both.
