HAGLER: "If it's not a big fight, I'll turn it off..."

I was shocked that he said that until i found out he has to stay up until 6 AM to watch the fights.

And he also said that ever since he retired boxing hasn't been worth watching. Which is also shocking.

Well he's just like all the big fighters of that time that talk crap about the boxing of now, and how they say boxing in their day was so much better in every way.

Would he have turned off his own fight with Duran?

Marvin is an older gentlman now, still trying to overcome his discomfort with himself..

Unfortunately, those comments were potentially damaging to the sport.

Good thing those who don't already care couldn't have heard it..

Hopefully no UFC symp in the media gets happy.

I know what you mean. To an extent, I think Hagler is right though. Back in the 80's, fighters went to war, and the "Winner" got paid more than who ever lost, regardless of status, popularity, gate draw, etc. I think he meant it as a whole.....judges, promoters, sanctions involved, and "running" back then was look at as....."Running"! No sugar coating with "defensive style" or sweet science crap. There is no Middle Weight that can reach the greatness of Marvelous Marvin Hagler! Todays MW's are good, Winky Wright being at the top of the crop, and Cory Spinks is exciting to watch.

That's why they call it "playing things out of context."

They can just drop the couple of comments Hagler made and put the emphasis there.

                It's all about emphasis.

Oh and Hagler also said he sees no skill in MMA..
