The only elite fighter he beat imo was Chris Eubank, Robin reid maybe, Jeff lacy no.

Robin Reid? No way. Chris Eubank? Umm, not when he fought him. And Jeff lacy...i don't even need to go there.

Yeah but in terms of names on his resume, eubank was an elite name, and robin reid was a world class SMW who got some unlucky breaks, he was better than Kessler.

Eubank was an elite name. And so was Roberto Duran when William Joppy fought him. Bottom line, Eubank was well past it. And if Robin Reid is the best you can come up with out of TWENTY defenses...YIKES.

Hold on, im not saying his 20 defences were great, there certainly were not, but he does have an elite name on his record, that a fact, he fought an elite fighter, eubanks was past it, he wasnt totally shot to peices when he fought JC, he actually landed some good shots in that fight.

Yes, that fight was war. But that's more an indictment of Calzaghe than anything. He fought only two more times after that. Bottom line, Eubank was ONCE an elite fighter but when Calzaghe fought him, he was merely a NAME.

I admit the Brits aren't as fickle as we are here. They are loyal but, your fighters don't tend to fight the best and when they do, they get destroyed. With the exception of Lennox Lewis. I was a huge Lennox fan when most Americans hated. He wanted EVERYONE and really fought them unlike Joe and Ricky. They appear to talk like they do but the fight never happens.

I say eubank was not in his prime, but he could still have done some damage, in terms of names on paper, Eubank was an elite name,

De La Hoya was past his prime when he fought Mayweather, but was clearly still an elite fighter and would have beaten some top fighters with his may 5th performance.

I think that proves my point. Who has DLH beat recently if he was elite? Lost to Floyd. Lost to Hops. Arguably lost to STURM. DLH hasn't been elite in YEARS. Another perfect example of a once elite fighter elite in name ONLY.

That doesn't mean he is not an elite fighter, it means he is competing with the very top fighters in the world

Floyd Was p4p number one when he beat DLH

B-Hop was p4p Number one when beat DLH

Yes he lost to sturm, but to be fair i dont think de la hoya is good at 160, its not his best weight.

I think most of today top boxers would lose if they have fought PBF and B-Hop when DLH did.

The difference is De La hoya is not afraid to fight anyone and wont pad his record with crap names to get brownie points with the fans,

Kessler is unbeaten and has two belts, DLH has lost 2 out his last 3 fights, who is the better fighter?
