Hi Neil. Spot on. The Williams gravy express is unfounded. He never won the fight Saturday. He did more of 'Junior Witter'. Pranced around a little with shoe-shine shots that really don't quantify scoring whilst AM pummels his body to slow him down. What fight were these band-wagoners watching?! Sure Williams is lanky and awkward, but he never once did anything to convince me that he'd hurt AM at any point. Too much scoring focus is heaped on the looking good factor. We know AM is slow from the blocks, but he worked the body well for the first half of the fight, and convinced Williams to drop his hands before going to work on his head. If that's not a suitable game plan then I'm not sure what is. For the most part Williams danced, and landed, but my scoring was based on effective work and not what sort of distance Williams ran. And I firmly believe that a rematch would see AM leave nothing to chance and mow Williams down and stop him.

In a rematch, I would pick Margarito. Sure Williams is good - no denying. But Margarito took too long out of the gate. If the match would have had open scoring, I believe Margarito would have stepped up and beaten PW. It appeared that Margarito had that capability during the fight. I say this but I also say that PW has gained a lot of respect from me.

Margarito should still fight Cotto anyway because everyone already knew that Margarito does not do well enough against south paws and some fighters give you hard times, I don't believe Cotto will never take on Williams beacause of his freakish height, I would love to see Miguel Cotto fight Antonio Mrgarito or Shane Mosley next, Williams was overrated, eveybosy thought he was going to just going to go throgh Margarito but he did not.

It was a good fight. Marguerito looked slow and sluggish early but it also looked like he was picking off a lot of the shots from Williams. Williams doesn’t have any power either. He slaps a lot with an open glove. I don’t think Marguerito did enuff to win but I wanted to know how you saw the fight. I think he landed the more effective punches but Williams tapped him more and definantly outworked him. I know you have to report it non biased but personally how did you score it and see it. I scored it 115-113 for Margarito from ringside. I thought Margarito won rounds 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11. I thought Williams won rounds 1, 2, 3, 9, 12. Watching the replay on TV, I scored it even, 114-114; the difference being round six, which I scored for Williams. I also thought the ninth round, which seemed like a clear round for Williams from where I sat at the fight was very close watching it on the tube (which was frustrating because it didn’t seem like Lampley, Merchant, Steward or Lederman gave Margarito credit for much of his work).

In my opinion, the difference between scoring a clear-cut victory for Williams and a draw or close Margarito win was rounds four and five. If you scored those two rounds for Williams (as two of the three official judges did), it was hard not to see the Punisher winning the fight. From where I sat (both at the fight and watching on TV), it appeared that Williams threw a lot of punches and did a lot of moving about the ring, but he did not land a lot of significant shots in those rounds. I thought round four was very competitive, but Margarito took the round on my scorecard by landing the best punches in the final minute of the stanza, causing Williams to retreat. (Of course, following the fourth round on TV, HBO only showed an uppercut landed by Williams as the in-between round highlight, which drove me absolutely insane.) I thought Margarito had Williams in retreat and at the end of right hands for much of the fifth round. Williams did fire back as he backpedaled, but Margarito blocked most of the significant shots (none of that was called by the HBO broadcasters during the round, but Merchant did mention that he scored the round for Margarito, which prevented me from throwing my chair through my TV screen).

It’s no big deal, really. I like effective punching over sheer volume. That’s what separates professional boxing from amateur boxing, in my opinion, and that’s why I scored Penalosa over DeLeon, Hopkins (first fight) and Wright over Taylor, and both Mosley (second fight) and Strum over De La Hoya.

Boxing is becoming a little too much like college football. Margarito faught a hella of a fight, I like Pail Williams he's a cool country boy, but Margarito should not be out of the mix. Guys are scared to fight other name guys because they don't want to risk a loss. If you get beat by the best and you fought tough, it shouldn't be over for that fighter. My little old grandma was excited. I want to see these guys some more. Cintron vs. Williams, Margarito vs. Cotto, if Margarito wins and Williams wins then let them have a rematch but this time with higher stakes like unification. I hope boxing deosn't introduce its own version of the BCS. (P.S my girl thinks you're hot. Me too, you're kinda pretty, JK!) – Marlon

I agree with you 100%. Margarito should not fall off the face of the earth (as a top contender or a player in the welterweight division) the way he was dropped from HBO’s graphic of top welterweights at the end of Saturday’s broadcast. Margarito should be given respect for facing young, hungry welterweights who are unbeaten or once-beaten on consistent basis. He’s weeded out pretenders (Hercules Kyvelos and Sebastian Lujan), he’s brought out contenders (Joshua Clottey and Williams), and he caused hot prospects to refocus and grow from the beatdowns he dished out (Sergio Martinez and Kermit Cintron). He’s been good for the welterweight division and he can continue to be unless the networks, the media and the fans turn their backs on him. I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen.

i watched the fight about 5 times already. margarito does indeed block the majority of williams punches and slipped through them(who woulda thunk?!). i'll give p will credit for the win. but it coulda been judged for either fighter. williams got the W for activity, but margarito could've got the W for the more meaningful punches. it's funny how williams was all lumped up and cut after the fight and margarito was clean, after all that BS he was talkin' during their sparring sessions. boxing 2012- floyd blatantly ducked AM. he fought baldomir!

Theres no doubt Margarito blocked a **** load of Williams' punches. He showed some suprisingly good defensive skill I thought.

Hey I am truly interested and would consider myself unbiased on the topic. I watched the fight on TV (and I had picked Margarito to win by late stoppage) and scored the fight 115-113 Williams (1,2,3,4,6,9,12) but judging from what I've read on the internet most of the press ringside scored the bout a draw or for Margarito. Even if we discount Doug Fischer and Steve Kim (because some think they are biased towards Margarito) 6 out of 9 of the other members scored the fight for Margarito or a draw. Did being at the fight show you something different than if you watched on TV?

It looked closer to me on the second viewing. Still Margarito didn't hustle enough to win, but the fight was winnable. The result of the fight, to me, was that both guys are second rate.

**** I bet On Margarito..Including a SIG bet.. as you can see .. I have also on several occasions called Williams a Fraud... SO ... I have a Lot to lose by saying this.. BUT Williams WON.. I could get all prick like and say Well really.. Margarito lost.. by doing SFA for 6 rounds.. and then doing SFA in the 12th Which could have made the difference.. But it was a 115-113 fight.. For Williams..
