Coming To Fight: But Will Hopkins-Wright Excite?

By Jake Donovan - While last weekend was a dream come true for boxing junkies, this upcoming Saturday is a time capsule moment for the purists. Two of today's games best tacticians collide when Bernard Hopkins (47-4-1, 32KO) squares off against Winky "Don't Call Me Ronald" Wright (51-3-1, 25KO) this weekend at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas (Saturday, 9PM ET/6PM PT, HBO PPV).

Normally, the prospect of two Hall of Famers near the top of the heap facing one another would be enough to sell itself, especially a perceived pick-'em matchup. But in an era where will is more celebrated than skill (more on that later), the question fans are asking themselves more so than who will win is whether to spend $50 to watch it as it happens. It's not a good sign for the prospect of an exciting fight when they have to name the fight something that suggests that the fight will be exciting. That's just my two cents. Don't expect much of this --->

I think it will, winky always trys to pressure fighters but at 170 hopkins has the power to hurt him.

Both Hopkins and Wright set out primarily to shut down the offense of their opponent rather than to utilise their own, so this has all the hallmarks of a snooze-fest.

To enjoy this fight is like watching a chess match you try to predict what each fighter thinks and what are they going to do.

for people who are trying to improve themselves in boxing this is the right match for you. predict how each one is going to move what if you where winky or what if you where Hopkins what would you have done different in every round.

watching them is like facing them and that is alway good to watch

For you guys who like chess matches, why dont u just go to the park and watch 2 old men actually play chess? This is boxing. Its about 2 guys getting in the ring while one tries to take the other guy out. How entertaining can it be to watch two guys jab, paw, and feint for 12 rounds? 2 great fighters?...Yes, but stylistically, this is a terrible matchup. That's exactly why HBO billed it "coming to fight". They are trying to reasure fans that this fight will actually be a fight and not a jab fest. I'll pass on this one.

fight are won by the mind mostly and not the body. and even wars are mostly won by the mind and tactics used.

maybe in may not be entetianing to some but for me i feel i could learn from both guys.

would Winky change his style to become more of a boxer and suprise Hopkins with it because it LHW and Hopkins has a power advantage and Winky would come in suprising hims as a boxer instead of a pressure fighter which Hopkins was putting in his mind and training for.
