I was so mad at Gatti for being at 147 still after the baldomir fight(which I attended), because it seemed apparent to me that he did not have the power to hurt legit welterweights. When that same factor greatly contributed to his loss against Gomez(I was there too), I was really pissed. 2 KO losses simply because he was too stubborn to drop to 140 where his chin and power could be more overwhelming. But as I just found out, he HAD to be at 147...
"I came in thinking I could outbox him, but, you know, the ring was getting smaller and smaller with a bigger man. And it just sucks that from ‘40 to ‘47, it’s just a different me. I wish I could make 140 but it’s impossible. So, I don’t see myself continuing at 147. I want to retire. And I can’t be taking this abuse no more.”
So he cant make 140, and this wasnt Gatti just losing to some bum(yeah, he's a bum sorta, but a welterweight bum still), it was Gatti against all odds once again. And thats not a bad way to go out...
