I just made a ****in long ass thread that got erased on accident so Ill try to remember what I wrote.
I think the major part in the scoring was the start of the fight. I know Williams clearly dominated the first 2 rounds and if I remember right, I think he also dominated the 3rd. The next 3 rounds were big in this fight and where I think a problem was with alot of the scoring. I think to a certain degree Williams was a victim of his own success. I think because he dominated the first 3 rounds so easy that it made it look like Margarito was winning the next 3 or two of the next 3 simply because he wasnt getting dominated. You feel what Im saying? Margarito was completely dominated in the first 3 rounds and because he did much better in the next 3 it gave the impression that he was winning the rounds but the truth is he still wasnt doing enough. I think that if Williams didnt have such a good start then even more people wouldve scored it for Williams. I think that if no one ever saw the first 3 rounds and then you just watched rounds 4-6 then you wouldve gave those rounds to Williams because he did more but when you compare them to what happened in the first 3 rounds, there was enough change to make it look like Margarito was doing better.
Thats why you have to be a vet like Manny Steward. Lampley kept on saying to him that "isnt Margarito doing much better now" and then Manny was like yeah he's doing better but he still isnt doing enough and is getting outworked. I singled out the first 6 rounds but it actually carried over for the final 6 rounds. Again, if you never saw the begining of the fight then you would say that Williams is doing well and winning some of these rounds but because he was so awesome early, it made him look like a totally different fighter. Early he was standing his ground, firing, and landing non stop. Later he was boxing more, on the move more, and Margarito was getting to him more. Again, he was still doing ok but it gave a bad impression because it was such a drastic change from early in the fight. I actually compare it to the first Floyd-Castillo fight where Floyd started strong and won the rounds easy but then Castillo came on late and he still didnt do enough to win but it gave that impression because the way the fight had changed.
Then you also have to add to that the fact of sweeping rounds. Thats something Lampley talks about all the time. People arent prone to just give one guy all the rounds in a big fight so if you have one guy winning the first 3 then your more likely to give the other guy the 4th if he just comes close in that round but thats not really fair. I think it would be hard for alot of guys to score a fight 6 rounds to 0 in a title fight against 2 big names. Thats why I think some of those ringside guys gave all the close rounds to Margarito. Also, lets be real about something else. Margarito gained a ton of fans amongst the writers in that challange of Mayweahter. There were a ton of bad articles dissing Floyd & praising Margarito. Calling Floyd a fraud and saying Margarito is the most feared man in boxing. He is some of the writers #1 fighter and I think they tend to lean toward him in those fights. If anything is close then there going to side with Margarito and no way they are going to give Williams a decision unless it was so one sided that they had to. I know guys like Fischer, Springer, and a ton of those West Coast guys always lean toward Margarito. No way they would give Williams all 6 or 5 out of the first 6 rounds no matter what. Thats why those guys dont have many legs to me. Margarito was there guy and they were going to push him to Super Man status. With all that being said, dont get me wrong. I think the fight was pretty close but I dont see anyway Margarito could win. He still proved to me that he was a Terminator and a damn scary fighter. He shouldnt be dissed. Its not his fault that Arum hyped him and dissed other people and its not his fault that fans & the media jumped on board with it. He's a real fighter and a damn good one.
There will also be some media people trying to make articles about how the rewatched the fight and rescored it but I dont give much credibility to that. 9 times out of 10 when people do that there not looking to really rescore it. They most of the time just try to find a way to give there guy that round that they scored for him. They cant be objective. They wont rewatcht it to actually score it, they'll rewatch it to try to prove to you why they scored it that way. Only some people are honest with that kind of stuff. Now I think with all that there could very well be a rematch. No one is going to fight Margarito with him not having a title and being that dangerous. No one is going to want Williams because of how scary he looked. Margarito will want the rematch & Arum will make it worth Williams wild. I think Williams wins the rematch by UD or possible late KO but there wont be any dispute about this one. You have to understand that Williams was the young guy who was inexperience and has never been in a fight like that. Margarito has and he still came up on the losing end. Margarito will be the same exact fighter but Williams will definatly be better after this fight. Margarito is always a slow starter and Williams is always a fast starter so there's no doubt Williams will again dominate early. Then I think it will be much harder for Margarito to make a ralley in this fight because Williams will know what to expect and he will just be more ready for a grueling fight. It was a shock to him this time but now he has graduated to the next level and will be just that harder to beat. Margarito will then lose twice in a row to him and he will basically be done like Forrest or like Mosley was for that long period. Then most people will laugh at him and call him the great media hype
