Skelton Decisions Sprott To Retain Title

There was no revenge, as Matt Skelton retained his Commonwealth (British Empire) Heavyweight Title with a majority decision win over Michael Sprott at the O2 Arena in England. The bout was a rematch of their April 2004 encounter that saw Skelton win by knockout in the twelfth. [details]

It went the distance. There was no KO in the 12th. Skelton won a majority decision. Or did I watch a different fight??

I'd like to know as well. According to boxrec, Skelton is ranked as the 8th best HW in the world. Did he put on a top 10 performance, should the HW champions be worried?

It was very boring. The scores by the judges (in my opinion) do not reflect the fight at all though. Skelton tried pretty hard to make a fight but they had might as well hung a punch bag in the middle of the ring and let him loose on that because sprott did nothing at all. I had skelton winning by 11 rounds.

What a terrible advert for the sport this fight was. Sprott was not even intrested in fighting and didnt make a game out of it. Skelton used his usual tatics but didnt really do much due to sprotts unwillingness to fight.

To cap it all off the judges score cards demand and investigation , sprott maybe won the first round but clearly that was it. One judge had it a draw and other had skelton by one round absolute madness.

As far as skelton being ranked top ten its really a reflection on what else is out there in the divison right now. For the future as the other champs are busy and we are all looking for unification i think Wlad should fight skelton it will be a very easy fight for him but it will keep him active and then he should be ready for the winner of Imbragimov/Chagaev.
