  • After Kessler, Calzaghe Wants Hopkins at 175

During an interview with BBC Sport, WBO super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe revealed that his November 3 unification bout with WBA/WBC counterpart Mikkel Kessler will be his last at super middleweight. Calzaghe plans to move up to the light heavyweight limit of 175-pounds in 2008. [details]

He talks about moving up, but with the likes of Taylor, Pavlik, Miranda all planning to move to SMW, he might stick around.

Does Calzaghe just assume that Bernard is going to beat Winky Wright? That's definitely not a given.

Calzaghe is getting older, he needs to fight at bigger weight classes because his body wants bigger weight classes

He has talked about fighting Taylor and Winky, and now it appears both of them will go to 168. However, since a few years ago it was harder and harder for him to make weight. That's a shame, cuz apart from Hopkins and Dawson who are good, super middleweight (Taylor, Winky, Pavlik, Miranda) will be a better weightclass in 2008 than light heavyweight.

Hopkins needs to have a fight in HIS hometown. This would be a perfect match.
