Thoughts on Margarito vs Williams and Julio-Berto?

1- Is Julio a punk? I dont know if you heard but he's turned down a fight with Berto on the Taylor-Pavlik undercard. I wouldve liked to see that. I can understand his team being slow with him after the Quintana loss but Berto would be right in front of him and he's not a proven guy so I think that would be a good fight for Julio. It definatly could get him right back in the spotlight.

2- I think the Williams-Margarito fight is the automatic FOTY. Not only that but I think it has a chance to be a instant classic. There are times when you see good fights made between guys who styles matchup and then there are times when you see all time great fights made. I felt that way when they made the Chico-Castillo fight and I feel the same way about this fight. It may not go 12 like that fight did but even if if went 3 then I think it could be like Hagler-Hearns.

3- Im really interested in seeing how Williams fights. Thats the thing I will be looking for the most. You know Margarito will always be Margarito but the question is will Williams change up? I think he will still throw alot of punches because thats just his nature but will he come forward and attack like he's done in nearly every fight or will he be more of a boxer in this fight? Would they actually make him just stay on the outside, use his range, and his jab? To me that could be good but I also think it shows some weakness since he's never done that before. Its also dangerous to switch up your style in a big fight but it worked for Hopkins against Tito and MAB against Naz.

4- Margarito or Williams? For boxing's sake, whos the guy that they want to win? I heard Arum talk and it doesnt sound like he's all that thrilled about a Cotto-Williams fight. He said that if Williams did win then there's a good shot you could see Cotto vs Mosley. Which would you rather see?

not shocked that julio turned down the fight.. he is a decent welterweight, but he isnt top 10.. I see flaws in him.

      Not an easy decision....

The polls here indicate Williams will be victorious.

There's a good chance he can pull off the upset. However, he's untested in championship fights.

Based on their win/ko ratio, they're nearly identical. They've sparred each other in the past, but one can't always base the future on the past. A Fighter's training and knowledge can change and may improve over the years.

Margarito seems to be the stronger of the two, and I Don't believe he would give up his title so easily. Though, he looked quite hittable against Klottey before Clottey broke his hand.

Paul has been gunning for Tony for a while now, and truly believes he's the one to beat Tony and take his title. He appears to have the style to give Tony a run for his money. A straight right jab all night long could spell d-e-f-e-a-t for Tony.

      They're both in their primes.

It's a toss up for me.

It can go either way, which makes this fight all the more interesting to watch for me.

I think WILLIAMS wins, but for the sake of boxing like u said, i think its better for Margarito to win.

Cause MARGARITO-COTTO is an even BETTER matchup then tonights fights, which means a surefire war.

BUT, If Williams somehow pulls off an amazingly impressive knockout, and becomes this overnight sensation the way Manny Pacquiao or Ricky Hatton did, then a Cotto-Williams fight will be made.

But COTTO-MOSLEY is by far the biggest fight in the Welterweight division, OUTSIDE of Floyd Mayweather and ODLH

That would have been great a Berto/Julio fight on the Taylor/Pavlik undercard, but dangerous for Julio to take and really for Berto as well, just because a loss would set either of them back a little especially Julio.

As far what's best for boxing in who wins the Williams/Margarito fight, I would say a Margarito win might be what boxing wants. I mean Im rooting for Williams, but a Margarito win sets up a Cotto fight which would be awesome. Then again I would rather see Mosely/Cotto. Plus if Williams wins and does it in impressive fashion, many could avoid him just for the obvious physical advantages he possess over everybody in the WW division. Also how long can he stay at 147 with that frame. WW are where the big money fights are at and with the Jr. MW and after Taylor and Pavlik leave the MW division those weight classes are weaker. Anyways lets just think about that later and enjoy the great action tonight.

Julio/Berto is a great matchup, but Julio's been down that road before with Quintana. He has a big fight lined up now. Not wanting to fight Berto is understandable.

Well it depends on what you want with Cotto.

If you want to see him in more and more amazing fights, then Margarito is gonna allow him to do that. Thats a sure thing for FOTY candidate.

But if you want him to start cementing his legacy as a Puerto Rican great, alongside the Trinidads and Benitez's, then you'd probably want him to take on Mosley while he's still hot and available

Berto would whoop Julio's ass...Paul Williams by decision over Margarito. I think both fighters will be hurt at some point in the fight. Unless its one guy outboxing the other all night then I expect it to be action packed.

I disagree,i think its better if Williams wins, hes a freak,a 6'2 (i hear 6'4) welterweight,a 81 reach, and hes only 25,Margarito is 29,he wont be fighting for too long,he might be gone in two years time,Williams has got alot of years left, even if we dont get Williams vs Cotto,we would still get some good fights,i think its better if the younger Williams wins
