I was a big fan of Tito due to my P.R backround, but he always seemed unbalanced in the ring. He always looked like he didnt know what he wanted to do next. I realize that he relied on his power to win fights, and although it was effective, i could never help but notice that he had some sloppy and unstable legs/footwork.
Is it me, or did Trinidad Have Horrible Footwork?

the way he got leverage from his legs to throw those powerful left hooks always left him unbalanced.....not the best of movement but not bad only losing twice while having one of the best resumes in boxing history....Comment

It's not you...
Tito almost stumbled around the ring, trying to put himself in a position to throw the left hook. He puts too much weight on the front foot, and leans a little bit too far forward to be able to have good footwork, or defence for that matter.
To me it always seemed like he moved his feet in 2 steps, and ending up in perfect position to throw that monster hook... But his problem against good fighters was that it was very predictable, slow and easy to disrupt his rythm.
I think he would be better if he had balance, as he would be able to slip punches more easily as well as being able to counter without adjusting his feet.
Hopkins actually looked down on Tito's feet to see when he was off-balance and unable to punch back.Comment

He was always up on that front foot trying to get leverage, specifically so he could throw that left hook for which he was known. His footwork wasn't necesarilly unskilled (he had great foot quickness), he was just always pushing off with that back foot like a sprinter pushes off out of the starting blocks, and it left him unbalanced at times.Comment

Tito's footwork was fine considering his style, it was his total lack of fighting intelligence(albeit few dirty tricks he used) that did him wrong.Comment

Trinidad had fine footwork. It was not great but it wasn't bad.
If you scrutinize him intensely I guess you can say he was at times a bit flat footed because he sat on his punches often to deliver power shots.
Many of you in this thread are trying to make Tito look like Mayorga or Darchinyan. Tito's balance was fine. He just wasn't a slick boxer with slick footwork thats all. He was a boxer puncher with tons of power.
Also remember that Tito was undisputed WW and cleaned out the division. He didn't loose till he got to MW.Comment
