Cornerman to Nonito: Thanks for humbling Vic

    Written by Steve Kim, maxboxing.com

    SHOWTIME

It was a night of upsets in Bridgeport, Connecticut even before Showtime went on the air and it was highlighted by Nonito Donaire's surprising fifth-round starching of Vic Darchinyan for the IBF flyweight title. Like Jorge Arce before him, Darchinyan found out that it's a different ballgame when you're not bullying a blown-up, non-punching, older foe, but instead a young, energetic upstart who won’t get pushed around physically.

He seemed to have a Marlon Starling moment in the post-fight interviews as he didn't fully comprehend just what had happened to him.

Donaire has broken through as a young star to watch in the future. And I think he'll get full support of the Pinoys from this point forward. As for Darchinyan, perhaps he needed to be knocked down a peg or three. More and more, his arrogance and callous attitude had worn thin on boxing fans. From what I'm told by a good source, one of his cornermen came into Donaire's dressing room after the fight, to not only congratulate them on their victory, but also thanked them for humbling a fighter that was badly in need of it.
Darchinyan, it seems, had fallen into the dangerous trap of believing he was indestructible.

I don't think the KO loss humble Vic. He still think he did not get KO. He can't accept the fact that he lost by KO.

He was clearly dominated. Everytime he would hit Nonito, Nonito would counter right away......Donaire does as he pleases. Vic asking for a rematch probably just coz of pride and for show.....I don't blame him coz it was an embarrassing KO for him personally.

Why are you guys bagging on Darchinyan? Even though he lacks Defense and relies only on his power he gave anyone willing to fight him a chance. So that alone is a good reason to give him a rematch.

We need more fighters like Darchinyan to give boxing a good name now that UFC is on the rise.

Credits go out to Donaire but at the same time we should praise boxers like Darchinyan and Arce for taking big fights and putting everything on the line to give us viewers a good show.
