Wladimir on course to "semi" greatness?

Even though it is a long shot to say "all he needs to do is beat the other champs and unify"...he IS cleaning out top 10-20 contenders in the division.

    What he is:

Wladimir - IBF champion who has been fighting like a champion recently

    What he needs:

    Chagaev - undefeated WBA champion
    Ibragimov - undefeated WBO champion
Maskaev - hard punching WBC champion

    What he COULD take:

Valuev - brings no championship to the table and a lot of risk

    Most impressive wins:

Brewster - always a dangerous puncher
    Brock - undefeated
Byrd - longest reigning HW champ
Peter - always a dangerous puncher, undefeated

    Throw away wins:

McCline - a big guy, stepping stone
    Mercer - good jab, old
Williamson - good right hand, nothing special
Castillo - undefeated, but not proven
Botha - stepping stone name, but nothing great

    Notable mentions:

    Bostice, Barrett

    Wastes of time:

Rahman - very unimpressive, still living off of SA
Holyfield - looked good vs a 41 year old journeyman, vulnerable
Briggs - horrible in last fight, nothing to bring to the table
Liakhovich - good fighter, but brings nothing to the table at this time
Krasniqi - good fighter, but brings nothing to the table at this time

My overall point being that he has some throw away wins, but some good wins and unifying the divsion vs the other champions practically cleans what is left of this era of meaningful HWs out.

i think that avenging the most recent of his stoppage losses is a great step towards a better legacy.

He easily has the best Resume of ANY active heavyweight...And has been beating top 15 ranked fighters for 8-9 years now...

At the moment he is Looking like he will be much better than semi great.. The next few years should be his Opus..

I tell you in a few years he could fight povetkin and maybe the 'hayemaker' david haye, they would look good on his resume.
          Maybe even vitali.

The only way he's gonna really earn respect from the doubters is by beating Sam Peter again, but better this time, which I think he can. Beating the other title holders will not do the same, as the they aren't impressive. Wladimir would easily pick apart Maskaev and probably would do the same to the other two. By the way, has anyone noticed that two of the title holders are lefty?? Thats pretty unusual.

I have noted that a few times, I think this is the first time in history when two titleholders are lefties.

I actually think he could have bigger problems with sultan or chageav than with peter. southpaws are a different kind of beast and we all know how wlad faired against sanders. at least with peter he'll see the punches coming. with southpaw sanders he was fighting the excact way youre not supposed to against a lefty,,,,he was stepping right into sanders left hand. of course the next time he'll be more prepared for the southpaw. from what I hear he didnt even see any tapes of sanders before there fight. of course sultan and chageav hit no where near as hard as sanders but they could catch wald coming in. Id be more nervous watching him against those guys than peter. peter just loads up too much and would get beaten up a lot easier this time around. wlads confidence was more of a problem back then which made that fight more difficult than it should have been for him

Never mind "semi greatness", Wlad is well on his way to being the greatest heavyweight in history. No other fighter has ever so totally dominated the heavyweight ranks as Wlad appears to be doing right now. And I predicted this for him years ago, the very first time I saw him.

He is the best right now...I don't believe, given his glass chin...that he will go down as an all time great.

In fact,if he were KOed his next time out, would it really shock anyone?
