Boxer faces vandalism charge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --Prominent Providence boxer Peter Manfredo Jr. was arrested after allegedly throwing a rock through the window of a tenant's SUV in Johnston, police said.
Manfredo was released with a summons to appear in District Court in Warwick on July 18, said Johnston Police Lt. Robert Voas. He faces a misdemeanor charge of vandalism/malicious injury to property, The Providence Journal reported.
Manfredo told police he didn't break the window, which he said was broken before he arrived at the apartment Monday. A phone number for Manfredo could not be located Saturday and he could not be reached for comment.
According to police, Manfredo went to a house he owns in Johnston to collect $1,800 in past rent from tenant Gary Burley.
Burley said Manfredo noticed a broken window, which Burley told Manfredo he broke because he couldn't get inside the apartment. Burley said when he told Manfredo he didn't have the money, Manfredo was so upset that Burley became fearful and called police, Voas said.
Burley told police he heard a window smash while he was on the phone. He said when he went outside, he found the window of his SUV smashed. He told police his 14-year-old son saw Manfredo throw the rock through the window, saying "You want to break my window -- I'm going to break yours."
