    Ike Quartey was a beast

Look at him in 1993 when he KO'ed Crisanto Espana to win the welterweight title. The guy was a monster if he fought Tito in 1995, that would've been an F'ing war.

Ike was unstoppable in the mid 90's.

Thank his inactivity for lack of good fights from Ike. Coulda been the greatest...but instead he fought like once every year or two.

    Shame...

You really can't blame Ike's inactivity on himself. He wanted to fight Tito & Sweet Pea but both fights were scrapped & those two ended up fighting each other. Those failed negotiations took months away from him so he ended up fighting Jose Luis Lopez because nobody wanted to fight him either. After that fight he was scheduled to fight DLH but DLH pulled out because of "injury" & the fight was postponed for months again.

could have been one of the best 147 ever, but he got lazy and never really did anything after the oscar fight.

of the group of fighters in that time, i think Ike Quartey was the best, I think a prime Ike was better than tito, de la hoya, vargas, or anyone else around that weight at the time

My personal opinion in head-to-head matchups.

            Tito beats Ike
Ike beats Oscar (I had Ike ahead 114-113)
Oscar beats Tito (I had DLH ahead 115-114)

Agreed! He was a very physically strong welter that walked through fighters. Had he fought Tito at welter I think he would've stopped him. Even when he fought Vargas after that long layoff & half-assed training he still made the fight competitve.

I think getting robbed a few times made him lose his love for the sport especially vs forrest

Good thread. He seems to be the forgotten welterweight of that era. Everyone remembers Mosley, DLH, Tito, and even Vargas. Quartey was the first guy to beat Oscar imo. He won eight rounds atleast.
