    Stop Kidding Yourselves About Mayweather-Hatton

While Floyd is showing interest, Hatton clearly isn't with the deal he's offering. It's like most of us rational fans have said all along. $10 million and in England is a JOKE to Floyd, and he would never accept that. He is in the driver's seat, so he makes the terms and the offers for that matter, not Hatton.

Here is an article to confirm it from a respected boxing writer who appears on HBO legendary nights all the time. Just like I've been saying about the situation, word for word.

There are no talks going on.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. surrenders the WBC super welterweight title and could fight Ricky Hatton.

Why are there no talks? $10 million is a very substantial offer for a guarantee, and is equal to Floyd's previous career high guarantee for his fight with De La Hoya. With PPV percentages we could see his take-home top 18 million easily. Maybe it isn't quite what Floyd is looking for but that's why we have talks in the first place. If there are no talks following a very serious offer like this then you have to question whether Floyd is motivated to fight Hatton.

By the way when Floyd's golf caddy, er, I mean trusted advisor says that Hatton should "sign the contract" then Hatton gets criticised for not "signing the contract" even though no money or terms have been mentioned in said contract. Then when Hatton's promoter makes an official cash offer with terms, a rough date and a location Hatton gets criticised for not making an offer that you think Floyd deserves.

Of course there are talks going on. And the pay will probably come down to 10-12 million for Mayweather. The only thing left to make the fight official is an agreement on how much Hatton is getting. They already have the date and the Vegas casino agreed upon.

Then explain Ellerbe's wording on this. Why would he say things like "If we choose to fight" or "Hatton doesn't make the offers" if they were seriously close to a deal?

Note the date of the article. Yesterday.

Usually it is when you hear nothing from either camp that you know a deal is being worked out. If Ellerbe is coming out and saying how Hatton doesn't get to offer the deals (basically saying they aren't going to fight in England), and Hatton's promoter is saying they might have a deal by August, this sounds like they are nowhere close to any type of deal. It reminds me of two years ago when Hatton backed out and last year when Hatton backed out.

Who is Ellerbe, and why isn't he busy telling Floyd to use a 9-iron?

DLH and Mayweather were quiet for about a week if I remember correctly. Then, Larry Merchant spilled the beans on HBO that it was almost done, and everybody breathed a sigh of relief. This sounds like they aren't close. If they do hammer out a deal in the next two days, I'll admit I overreacted.

I hope this fight doesn't happen.

Mayweather should fight either Cotto, or Mosley. Hatton is very overhyped for beating two overaged legends.

And Mosley is well past his prime and Cotto hasn't beaten any legends, faded or not.
